I don't mean wizards or sorcerers. I mean regular humans who put on a magic show for people. I'm asking because, for a long time, watching those movies felt almost like watching a magic show in person. Illusions that you knew weren't real but that you still wondered how they were pulled off. Tricks that are achieved more easily when they're not done in real time, but that still have physical restrictions. However, once CGI became the norm, we got used to it. So, when something like NOW YOU SEE ME comes along, even if the magic is cool, we're not in awe in the same way. Subconsciously, we know there are no limits to what can be shown. Of course that there are many other elements that can make a movie good, but these movies tend to focus mainly on the shows and the practice sessions, so it feels like a "make it or break it" element.

I don't see why not.
There is no reason they need cgi and to be action thrillers like Now You See Me.

The Illusionist a 2010 animated film is a great film about a magician that captured my attention. There’s a lot you can do. Visual spectacles like “Now You See Me” or an introspective journey like “The Illusionist” (2010)...

Aren't we forgetting about The Prestige (2006)?

Regardless of the plot, it never would've been the kind of experience I was describing. Aren't we forgetting about The Prestige (2006)? How could I? 2006 had the biggest number of magician movies.

They should do a Sigfried and Roy biopic, they could call it "Cat Scratch Fever"

My favorite movie with a magician is "Terror Train".

I don't think Now You See Men's problem was inherently being about magicians so match as using that as crutch to be as crazy and stupid as convenient.
Magic tricks in a movie are never going to be as impressive as seeing it live in person, CGI or no.

Magic tricks in a movie are never going to be as impressive as seeing it live in person, CGI or no. I think it's possible if, aside from no CGI, there's no editing. Rachel Weisz's card trick in THE BROTHERS BLOOM is a good example.
