Pork pie and divtal!! Checking to see you are alright
BTW pork pie would you prefer I call you something else?
AQI still poor for everyone. Maybe I can shop Thursday? I will have to bite the bullet soon. I'm almost out of bread and milk
Be safe! Somehow it makes it easier to do this 'together'.
Thanks!

Sorry to hear that some of you are suffering from the wildfires. I have extended family in an area of Oregon that had to evacuate. So far, their home is still safe but in the line of the moving fires. Even family in Colorado are suffering from the smoke and bad air quality. Here in Missouri, we are seeing interesting sunsets and even some haze in the air. This is allergy season for us, so it's hard to tell if the fires are affecting our air quality, or if it's just allergies. Everyone stay safe and keep us updated, please.

Thank you for your kind sentiments sunshine! I just stay inside. The air quality is horrible. My worry now is I am running out of food and need to go shopping. Keep your fingers crossed I can do that soon. I know my problems are so small compared to those evacuated or hurt in the fires losing everything. I probably could eat beans for weeks. Lol Another thing, my husband was from Iowa so he was very interested in your sunsets. The smoke really has reached a long distance! Thanks again sunshine!

Pork pie and divtal!! Checking to see you are alright BTW pork pie would you prefer I call you something else? Anything's fine. Just don't call me late for dinner. Some use my last name and call me "Hat". A few use my IRL initials of "TJ". I'm O.K. The air quality is better here today, and a combination of reduced temperatures, lower wind speeds, and heavy fog are helping. We're supposed to get a little rain this week too. I'll be working outside with a friend for much of the afternoon.

I'll be working outside with a friend for much of the afternoon. Are you wearing an N95? I haven't purchased one yet since my only exposure is the rare/weekly shopping trip - and then I try to go during times when the occupancy is low and keep my distance from others. I have several of the standard "surgical" and three-layer COVID-19 masks, but I'm aware that they are not effective for smoke particles. Shawn and I both wear our masks whenever we are working near (but still distanced from) each other. Thanks for your concern, but I'll be O.K. ============= Funniest (yet accurate) line in Today's To Do List: We got to move these refrigerators We got to move these color TVs

I should be worried. I heard Wednesday our air may be good enough for me to shop. N95 masks are not available here to the public. Wish I had foresight and bought them! I'll get the Ben Gay ready!

Heheh - Shawn had to cancel for today because . . . get this - he injured his back (slightly) yesterday while moving a refrigerator.
I'm not sure it that qualifies as irony or synchronicity. Perhaps either Alanis or The Police would know.

Pork pie and divtal!! Checking to see you are alright BTW pork pie would you prefer I call you something else? AQI still poor for everyone. Maybe I can shop Thursday? I will have to bite the bullet soon. I'm almost out of bread and milk Be safe! Somehow it makes it easier to do this 'together'. Thanks! I'm fine, thank you, Enigma. Our AQI, compared to what we've been able to see, and sense, seems quite good today. However, the "Weather Underground," readout is "unhealthy," and registers in the 190 territory. The sky is hazy, but the air doesn't smell of smoke. There is fine ash falling on everything. There's even evidence of it inside homes and cars. How are you doing in Turlock? My school friends, in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, are slightly improved in terms of the evacuation orders being reduced for many. However, the AQI for Salem (in the center of the valley) was up in the high 400, with a description of "hazardous." I still haven't heard from my former colleague in northwestern Washington. However, there is no online reporting of fires in that region. As Hat said, a couple of days ago, that's pretty much a rain forest region, so they have that protection from Mother Nature.

We were trying to have the house painted but I think I better wait. Our air 'looked' better too but the number is high. Have you been out in it? My lungs hurt after the smallest outside time. Thanks for checking up on us! And keeping me informed. My friend is in a suburb of Portland. Are they bad, too?

"My friend is in a suburb of Portland. Are they bad, too?"
A few days ago ... maybe late Friday/early Saturday, I heard that fires were "close" to some Portland suburbs, but they weren't specific. Also, in school I lived in Salem, and I'm not very clear on the geography of the Portland "burbs."
I pretty much rely on YouTube.
-- Oregon City, and Lake Oswego are the two suburbs from which I've seen reports. There was one that aired early today, from Oregon City. It was very smokey, but there didn't seem to be any overwhelming danger bearing down on them. As I recall, driving from Salem to Portland, Lake Oswego and Oregon City are the first "burbs" you hit. That would make sense, as the center of the fire seems to be concentrated in Marion/Clackamas counties ... from the Salem region.
-- Beaverton is enormous, and I'm not sure how it works into the Portland geography. Tigard is close "burb." I haven't heard either of them mentioned in any reports.

Well this is rather puzzling...
I've looked at several sites which report the AQI for my area, and they all range from 300 to 500+ - which is basically off the scale high, and yet I don't seem to be affected very much. My area is often a little bit different when it comes to weather, but I can't imagine that it's all that much when it comes to the air overall.
A few people I've talked to are affected, but they live miles away from me. There is no noticeable smoke smell in the air right now, and while my throat seems a bit dry *at this moment*, it's not something I've noticed much.
I've driven through miles and miles of fires in western Montana and Idaho and definitely noticed it then - to the point where my eyes were very irritated, but that hasn't happened to me at all. Perhaps I just have a low sensitivity to this problem.

I went grocery shopping!
HAPPY
The air was in sensitive group. Much better than before.
Like you said Hat our AQI was over 500! Off the scale!
Divtal did you see blue sky? I hope so.
I'm hopeful we will have better air Thursday. Fingerscrossed that no more fires spark!

It's a light blue, and very much an improvement from what we've been seeing. I'm very close to the ocean, and there are some high wisps of fog typical, and does lighten the blue hue of the sky.
I haven't smelled smoke all day!! And, we don't have the "snow storm" of ash, that we've been seeing. However, it has covered windows, cars, etc., to the degree that it's hard to say if any of it is continuing to settle.
The best news that I've heard is that there's a low pressure system developing off of the coast of Oregon, and might bring showers, soon. Let's hope!

We are getting the high atmosphere blow over smoke here in Iowa again. No ill health effects. Like I said before makes for great sunsets and sunrises. Hoping things turn around soon for you guys out there in California Oregon Washington. Hoping your AC can make your indoor air breathable.

Air purifiers are not complicated gadgets - they're just a fan with a filter How to build an inexpensive, DIY HEPA air purifier: Take some filter material such as this: www.amazon.com/VEVA-Activated-Compatible-Purifier-AP-300PH/dp/B01FJMOJFA/and using a simple box fan, cut it to fit on the "downwind"/"exhaust" side of the fan, attach it with some duct tape, and Viola! I might do this for myself, but I seem to be relatively unaffected by the air quality right now. I worked outside most of the day yesterday with no ill effects. Also, I should have three standard (although small) air purifiers arriving soon.

My husband will be interested in the sunset/sunrise reds. We are approaching our fire season. Does that seem crazy? October is the worst. I run my AC 24/7. I also have 2 air filters on full blast. I hope that's enough. But even with this we smell smoke occasionally. Thanks for your concern!
