I haven’t been into it since Negan showed up. Not that he’s the problem, just giving a timeframe.
I did watch up til fairly recently out of boredom and curiosity but I fell away from it just as easily. I’d say they milked this cow about as far as they could.

Thank God.
I own season 1-5 on Blu-ray.
I love the first 3 seasons. Frank Darabont was an amazing director. The first two seasons are easily the best.
Season 3 and 4 with the Governor was a great arc. I think the idea that people couldn’t trust people in this world just as much as the threat of zombies was emphasized fine in this story.
I loved the walk down the train tracks to Terminus. The cannibal idea was a good idea. I think they could have expanded on this a bit, but it was still a good build. I liked the group being divided up.
I personally think the show should have ended with them deciding to go to Washington D.C. after Beth dies at the hospital and the preacher plot.
They drive off into the distance, embarking on an unknown journey. Then it pans out to a cinematic shot of the RV and then a huge zombie herd in the distance and you see a shot of what looks like endless carnage and zombies ahead.
Ambitious ending.

Once they get to Alexandria, it’s like a different show completely. We don’t need to see waring clans etc...

In fact the episode "Them" could have been a potential final episode that your idea suggests. Demoralised and odds against them, they weather the storm against the walkers and they set off on their journey, victorious and reborn . Remove the Aaron cliffhanger and put that RV shot you mentioned and you have a great finale to the show. Its reputation withstanding.

I haven't watched since the end of season 7. Maybe with just four more seasons, I may as well finish it.

Yeah, man. Between the show already dragging, and the showrunners saying there's no end in sight, I was cutting my losses a bit. I can probably safely say I won't be watching the spinoffs, though.

It ended for me when Rick defeated Negan. Those last couple of seasons were steady decline in quality.

IMHO the show wore out it's welcome. Really when Rick G went, so did the show!

Anybody catch the finale? Didn't love it, didn't hate it.
