It's true what they say about Maytag washing machines! I've had this one for 30 years, and it's still going strong!! I love it! I've been through two dryers (well, one I left at the other house, and the one I bought for this house got flooded in Hurricane Floyd - it's not a Maytag, but it's going fine since late 1999).
Do you have an appliance that has held up for decades? Or anything else of use?

My mother has one of those immersion blenders with different attachments and an expensive deluxe mixer which is so heavy it's very hard to use. I use her 1970s-era mixer and her '70s Sears "Insta-Blend" blender (in harvest gold!) and they're easier to handle than the modern models and still work great.

Yeah pray for it to keep going because current modern appliances no matter what brand have an average lifespan of 5-7 years. Maybe it'll reach 10 years at most. I seriously doubt Maytag washing machines made in the last 15 years will last as long as your old model.
Edit: Which means I see no reason to spend $1000-3500 for a washing machine & dryer with all the new fancy whistles and digital wash cycles. Just give me the regular top loaders that cost no more than $500.

Believe it or not, I have a Waring Blender from 1971 that still works and I still use it!! My sister went through three of them in fifteen years! And from what I understand, it's also difficult to find them with glass pitchers (or whatever the container is called). I also have a hand operated can opener from 1971 that's still going strong! It's heavy duty. I had a hand mixer that just was't powerful enough anymore, so I replaced it with a new one about four or five years ago. Every time I use it, I wonder how long it will last.

Yeah, I've heard there are basically two or three companies that make major appliances anymore. My dishwasher went after 8 years, and the stupid over-the-range big-deal microwave went after 5, but we held on to it because it worked sporadically. I picked up a Whirlpool over the range microwave, and it's awesome! Both are vented to the outside. Replaced the dishwasher with a Bosch, and love it!! Have had it for maybe three years.

Yeah one of them is Electrolux who owns so many brands. I have a SHARP Carousel microwave that you could fit a 20 lb Turkey and it's still running after 20 years. I hardly see microwaves this big sold in stores anymore.

We used it during our kitchen reno, then when the first over range one went until we got a new one, our daughter used it a few times, and that thing is still going!

And I am telling you as a person who is not very good taking care of things he owns. 30 years for a washing machine is very impressive.

They don't make anything like they used to. Even cars. I used to be able to work on my own truck, my own Jeep. It was terrific.
Now everything over the engine is covered, and there's digital everything, electronic everything, and there's no way to work on our own vehicles anymore.
I am sad that I have plastic blenders and plastic microwaves as well. Growing up we had pyrex mixing bowls, glass casserole dishes.

Back when I was seven or eight which would have been 1965 or 66 I somehow entangled my fingers and hand in the blades of a stand mixer. The blades needed to be cut off in order to get my hand out. My parents purchased a new stainless steel Hamilton Beach mixer then. I recently came into possession of said machine and it works fine. Making it 55 years old.

Sometime in the late 1900's/early 2000's, my Mom's dishwasher stopped working on the day before Thanksgiving. By some miracle, we found a repairman who was available on that day. He replaced a "gizmo" on the timer, and all was well.
Mom asked him if he thought that she should replace the washer. He advised against it. He said that older machines were built with strong, solid metal parts. Newer machines, of all sorts, just don't have the quality materials in their works. That's likely by design.
Mom has since passed away, and we sold the house a few years ago ... with a still-functioning dishwasher.
