by a student because people are either "he" or "she." Holy fucking crap. I tried joking about it a couple of days back and it's not even a joke to some people.

Good luck! Why sign up for a Russian class if they're gonna be completely ignorant about views on LGBT in Russia?

I couldn't make it in college now. Good luck! Why sign up for a Russian class if they're gonna be completely ignorant about views on LGBT in Russia? Because they are 'woke' and feel they don't need to adapt to the subject but rather the subject should adjust to woke views. I used to walk on a college campus for exercise. I would go into the buildings if I needed to use the restroom. I heard two different professors say 1- white men are evil 2- why would you want to be one of the top 5% earners. These are woke philosophies you will have to maneuver. You are too mature to accept their pablum without questioning. It will be difficult. I couldn't do it. All my best!

How's the prof supposed to respond? "Sorry, there aren't any Russian translations for the 76 other genders in the English language"? I remember in middle school 16 years ago that a student put her gender as "both" as a joke and the teacher told her "You're a girl!" Oh, how times have changed.

If the lecturer has to respond just use the Russian equivalent of “they”. If it’s so important for the student then he/she/they can make out a list of genders and for extra points translate them all into Russian. Really this is only a problem if the teaching facility wants to make it a problem as sometimes the reaction to whining can make the situation even worse.

The plural "they" would not agree with the singular grammatical number. Russian is a heavily inflected language and whether a noun is single or plural changes the form in verbs and adjectives. Russian does not use "they" in a singular form like English does. "It" can be used, but it's usually for abstract concepts like "time," "word," and "place." I guess can be appropriated into an animate pronoun. But real Russians do not talk like that. www.themoscowtimes.com/2018/08/24/lost-for-words-non-binary-russians-fight-the-limits-of-their-language-a62650

One of the way us stammering folk get around problem words is by using alternatives so I hope these non binary people know how much harder they’re making life for us.

I'm very curious how this lunacy about gender is accepted in countries with Romance languages like French and Spanish which have masculine and feminine tenses in words.
And for the record when you say "LGBT" remember that most LGB love the gender binary.
English had the right linguistic conditions for such lunacy to develop. It's actually quite isolated as having a no-gender system considering the geographically close languages surrounding it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatical_gender#/media/File:Gender_in_European_languages.png

K if: Он - he Она - she Оно - it Они - they Following this pattern with "she" and "it" ending in unpalatalized vowels, оны, ону, and онэ (actually, э has to be followed by a consonant except in proper nouns of foreign origin and letter names, according to a quick browse of Russian phonology) are still available. Then we have to come up with declensions of each of them. ![https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/personalpronounsdeclension-110515095231-phpapp02-thumbnail-4.jpg](https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/personalpronounsdeclension-110515095231-phpapp02-thumbnail-4.jpg) And verb conjugations ![https://enjoyrussian.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/russian-verbs-and-tenses-1024x584.png](https://enjoyrussian.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/russian-verbs-and-tenses-1024x584.png) And adjective endings ![https://psrussian.com/img/russian-adjectives-endings.png](https://psrussian.com/img/russian-adjectives-endings.png) And adjective declensions ![https://psrussian.com/img/russian-adjectives-declension-soft-and-hard.png](https://psrussian.com/img/russian-adjectives-declension-soft-and-hard.png) Are you beginning to understand how complicated this is?

I find all of this to be complete lunacy.
(I'm waiting to be stoned after such a remark)
