I kinda dislike this because I was really hoping for a live action remake of "Hunchback" but seems less likely now.

How's the social distancing going there? Can they say it was due to virus paranoia or not caring about the film itself?

Yeah, well, if I were Chinese I am not sure I would like to see a Chinese story made by Americans, either...

Gee, I wonder if something is happening in the world that is keeping folks from wanting to congregate in a packed movie theater? If there are not enough Covid-19 deniers to go out and see these movies first-run, then probably all cinema as we once knew it is coming to an end. I know Trump anti-maskers won't go because they can only afford the boot copies they buy off a guy who works the front of the Family Dollar. Biden supporters won’t go either because they’re too busy burning their cities down. Dumbass!!!

Biden supporters won’t go either because they’re too busy burning their cities down. Dumbass!!! All American cities are standing at 99.999% unscorched, so the “Biden supporters” must have done piss poor job. Depends on what you mean American cities. All the ones they burned down are in Democratic run states, but that’s none of my business cause I don’t live in one. Portland and California no one gives 2 shits about. Grow up fuck boy!!! Also Pelosi was caught not wearing a mask going into a salon. Her response was “HURR DURR I WAS SET UP”. What a load of bullshit.

Oh if only that were true. Antifa.com literally takes you to Joe Biden’s website.

I don't know why they didn't decide to give this a theatre run to begin with and just cut the losses before going to streaming services. They could have still generated some interest, even with limited capacity houses. Or they could have done both. Released it in theaters and D+ at the same time to give people more options. They still get the revenue.

No worries. All their Marvel movies make $10 quntillion a pop. Perhaps they should have had Samuel L Jackson pop up at the end and invite her to join The Avengers.

MULAN 8/10 While MULAN PART I had its fair share of clichés, it wasn't that predictable. And even though it could get annoying seeing Mushu (the comic relief) ruin things (while the title character would get the blame), he still played his part in the plot. In fact, a lot of good things happened indirectly thanks to him. I think that's why Mulan didn't get angry when he told the truth (her ancestors didn't actually send him to be her guardian) and instead hugged him for trying to cheer her up: Deep down, she knew that he honestly wanted to help. MULAN PART II on the other hand has absolutely no surprises and which turns Mushu into a completely unlikeable character (his redemption doesn't feel earned). I know that these Disney direct-to-DVD sequels were made with a lower budget, but that doesn't excuse the characters' expressions and gestures being much more exaggerated. Not to mention that there's now more slapstick. Sure, the 1st movie was a comedy, but it had a lot of action and drama. The setting and the themes were presented with subtlety and finesse. This follow-up is practically a farce. 3/10 When MULAN 2020 starts off, it doesn't introduce a young woman who's not stronger than most men but still a good fighter and who'll eventually learn that her intelligence is her best weapon. One who causes chaos around a matchmaker when she tries to help. It introduces a young woman who's had a qi (a special energy) since she was a child. She's not responsible for the chaos, but the matchmaker blames her anyway. So she's a super heroine and everyone around her is either weak or irrational so she can look good? Luckily, this remake ends up being more balanced (and entertaining). It allows for the male characters (good and evil) to have badass moments, and it's not afraid to tarnish the title character's image by showing her vulnerability (she cries before the climax when she thinks all is lost). The action sequences suffer a little bit due to David Coulson's choppy editing, but not enough to prevent me from appreciating the choreography. Aside from a phoenix, the visual effects don't look bad. For a movie aimed mainly at children (despite the PG-13 rating), it's refreshing to see slowly-paced conversations with little-to-no music. Cri-Kee has been turned into a human character. I've seen that kind of idea in other Disney projects like the show ONCE UPON A TIME, so I was intrigued, but he doesn't get that much to do in the plot. Also, his name is Cricket! That's a whole new level of laziness and silliness! In the 1998 version, there was a scene where the soldiers travel and merrily sing until they find a burnt village. It's one of the few times where it's OK to create a tonal whiplash, since it enhances the impact. As far as I know, it was the first Disney animated movie to address death in such a large scale. Not just the habitants, but also their fellow soldiers. They only spend 2 minutes or so there, but it's still enough time for them to process the tragedy. Here, when they arrive, the village isn't really presented as a surprise to the audience, and even less screen time is dedicated to that. Why not skip the scene altogether? When the soldiers come across the evil Rouran warriors, they shoot several arrows, and some of them flee. Mulan and a few others are ordered to follow them. I may be wrong here since I have zero experience in a battlefield, but is that really a good strategy? You need as many soldiers as possible, so why bother chasing men that, in your eyes, are mere cowards? What's the worst that can happen if they escape? There's a clever subversion where Mulan chooses to reveal her true identity instead of getting caught (as it happened the last time), but it's almost ruined when the others forgive her and agree to include her in their army without much hesitation. In the original, that took a lot of time. Not necessarily for thinking Mulan was a bad person, but because they had grown up with a certain mentality that you can't just erase overnight. I was confused as to why Mulan didn't cut her hair. Then, I read that it was common at the time for Chinese male soldiers to have long hair. OK, but didn't they wear their hair up so it wouldn't be an obstacle during a fight? Here, Mulan lets her hair down throughout the entire last part. 6/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
