www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/1-wedding-may-undo-maine-s-virus-fight-officials-say/ar-BB196HRX?ocid=msedgntpThis gets really frightening when an entire state's stability gets put in jeopardy because of a single wedding. It surprises me that people out there are still not taking this pandemic seriously, not wearing mask, not social distancing, and in general being reckless and acting as if this either doesn't exist or that the media is overblowing the seriousness of it. Now because of one couple's wedding, people 7 people are dead and 170 further are infected with COVID. That's just one rural wedding.

It states none who died, actually attended the wedding. 7 people died BECAUSE of this wedding.

“I worry and stress out very easily,” said the bride-to-be. “We’re trying very hard to follow their guidelines so we can have a happy day.”
...
Well that didn't pan out.

Ontario recently traced a bunch to 4 weddings, one of which was held at a home.

A religious congregation that took place in a Delhi mosque in March 2020 was a coronavirus super-spreader event, with more than 4,000 confirmed cases and at least 27 deaths. Around 40,000 people, including attendees and their contacts, were quarantined across the country.

I had a relative invite me to his wedding in July. I love them dearly! They've been together for years and have a beautiful daughter. He swore he was never going to get married, but they decided to finally get hitched. I planned to go, but then this pandemic hit. I had their wedding "pre-notice" on my fridge, and felt knots. Then the invitation came in the mail.
Nope, not going, sorry, love you guys, but not having any of it. As far as I know, no one came down with COVID. But I wasn't having any of it. It was a small wedding (they cut the guest list down because of the pandemic) but still....nah.
I feel sad, because I love them so much and feel like a doofus, but it's just not worth the risk. Too many cases come out of weddings.

The reason many people don't take the pandemic that seriously I think is because they haven't personally seen the effect of it.
With that being said, why take the risk?
As far as I can tell there are 2 types of people who don't act according to warnings. The people who don't believe what they hear and the people who just don't care. It seems likely that the wedding guests are probably more the former.

He just calls them ignorant cults masquerading as Christians. They are practically a COVID-19 power plant. He filled me in how North Korea's COVID-19 scare late spring was because a North defector snuck into the South to rape a girl & he snuck back North with a positive case. That stuff's not on the news tickers.

Are ppl's pocketbooks, body slammed economic activity, shut offices & schools... the fcuking tv coverage not enough??... humanity is doomed because we're too fucking stupid to exist.

Nobody can escape it. In times of extreme stress I make up my own reality. Maybe I am dreaming and the stuff on TV isn't real. Now with that being said, I still take most of the safety measures because I can't escape my empathy. I don't give 2 shits if I get COVID. I go back and forth between caring and not caring.

My own situation is that if I got COVID-19, I would probably feel careless in the eyes of others, like how did he get it?? 2 gigs, both pretty social distanced. I grocery once a week, take out with social distancing. What's nice is that other than some summer travel, my daily routine hasn't changed all that much. Besides, wearing a mask when it's cold in the morning is actually a bonus.

What was more in the news was whether their leader was in a coma or not.

7 people died BECAUSE of this wedding. That can't possibly be proven. Contact tracing.

7 people died BECAUSE of this wedding. That can't possibly be proven. The “super spreader” event started with wedding attendees in the Katahdin region and spread to the community at large and to a nursing home in Madison. An attendee worked at the York County Jail, 220 miles (355 kilometers) away, where there are more than 70 cases. The state is also investigating an outbreak at a church in Sanford, home of the wedding's officiant.
None of those who died actually attended the wedding and reception. The first of the deaths was reported in Millinocket, where no one has tested positive for several weeks, the town manager said Wednesday. Six other deaths were residents of Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center in Madison. I tend to agree that this story does not establish causal links particularly well. If some of the attendees were infected and then others at distant locales later developed the illness, then all that's been established is that the infected parties passed along the virus at some point; there's nothing here to indicate that their being at this wedding was the direct source of transmission--they might have transmitted it at any point throughout their daily routines elsewhere. Even an uptick in cases in the immediate vicinity doesn't definitively point to the event as being the direct source. It appears more to me that there was a surge in cases in the area, and officials were looking for anything they could pin it on, with this wedding being the most likely event they could come up with as a vector. Not especially rigorous detective work, imo.
