Bruno Hauptmann/The Lindbergh kidnapping. I've wondered if he actually did it, or if he might have been set up by someone else who had an ulterior motive for killing the child (some holding the opinion that Lindbergh himself might have wanted his apparently less-than-eugenically-perfect son dead).

This link makes a mention of that: www.clermontsun.com/2018/08/09/marc-hoover-was-charles-lindbergh-involved-in-his-sons-kidnapping-and-murder/Crime enthusiasts still discuss this case today. Was Hauptman the killer? And if so, did he have help? The abduction was almost too perfect. There were no fingerprints or any clues. And how could Hauptman have kidnapped the baby without knowing the home’s floor plan?It goes into no more detail than this, but I've read speculation in the past that the only way Hauptmann could have known how to find the child's room so precisely from outside would have been if he'd had an accomplice within the house. Some have suggested one of the maids as a possibility for that theory, but none of them were ever held as suspects in the case.

Even further, wasn't this whole situation the basis for Murder on the Orient as well.

Well no one was charged, there was a weird sex club in the area, and some records related to the case were removed.

In 1930s Beijing (then called Peking) a young woman named Pamela Werner was found murdered. Her father was a former civil servant for the British government. She was last seen leaving a skating rink. The case was complicated by the ongoing Sino-Japanese War.
