🚀 MUSE 🛸
In 1994, a student band called Rocket Baby Dolls changed their name to Muse and took part in a 'Battle Of The Bands' music event held in Torquay, Devon, England. Rocket Baby Dolls had emerged from the ashes of Gothic Plague as a meaner outfit all around, though their members were still all teenagers. They combined apects of the baggy scene, the baby doll metal-punk movement and the grunge rock movement in their stage show but didn't project an identity.
I was on the verge of turning 18 when all this was happening. Several years later, the band released their self-titled debut single, 'Muse' (1998). The following year they released their debut album, 'Showbiz' (1999).
'Muse have always pushed the boundaries of what a live show can achieve; whether it's flying drones over the audience's heads or performing on top of an inverted pyramid. Their dedication to spectacle is hard-wired into the band's DNA - so much so that Matt Bellamy holds the World Record for the most guitars smashed in a single tour (140, during 2004's Absolution tour).'

I want to like them, and I've tried, but I just don't. They have their moments, but not enough of them. And their last couple of releases were crap. IMO, of course.

tl;dr
The first album was decent, a solid debut. The second and third are undoubtedly peak Muse. The fourth was decent, fifth was a bit of step down. The sixth took a bit of time to get used to. The seventh was mediocre at best and I haven't bothered with the eighth.

Did you enjoy seeing them? Yeah they do a great live show. Can you imagine if Muse and Coldplay toured together today? Pandemic not withstanding, that'd surely sell tickets.

They're a great band, in my opinion they peaked with Black Holes & Revolutions but it hasn't been a steep decline or crash and burn. They've maintained dignity and consistently put out good Muse albums. They just aren't what I'd consider to be an "important band", they never had their Kid A or Viva La Vida that lifted them from "among the best of their time" to "among the best of all time".
