I've not listened to any of their albums and could only name a couple of their songs but I've known people in my life who were big fans and have seen them live on multiple occasions. I did hear a song they recorded today, I think it was called 'Gold New Dream', it had the kind of heroic melody and triumphalist riff of 'Gold' by Spandau Ballet.
I believe their most recent album was 'Walk Between Worlds' (2018) and that they are still classified as an active unit.
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks.

I recommend don't listen to their monster hit "Don't You Forget About Me." It really is so unlike most of their material. And besides, they didn't even write that one.
There was a really classic time for Simple Minds -- the "New Gold Dream" album and "Sparkle In The Rain" album. Not many bands were able to touch them at that time. They were REALLY great during that time.
You may not dig their stuff, but this is a live version of one of their best songs, "Someone, Somewhere In Summertime." The band was truly at the peak of their powers here. Everything was perfect: guitars, vocals, superb bass player and drummer, keys that perfectly complimented the song. So mesmerizing.

I would say no, because in order to listen to any of the music you'd have to buy it.
If willing to do that though, i would recommend buying the fourth and fifth albums.

I got on board through "Don't You (Forget About Me)," so my favorites come from the next album that followed and a late-period one that harkened back to the sound of that album:
"Once Upon a Time" [Once Upon a Time, 1985]
"Oh Jungleland" [Once Upon a Time, 1985]
"The Jeweller (Part 2)" [Black & White 050505, 2005]
"Stay Visible" [Black & White 050505, 2005]

Love 'em. Here's a few lesser known tracks to get you started:
If you only listen to one, make it this one:
Happy Simple Minding!
