After watching the sequel last night, decided against my better judgment to revisit Bobby Zombie’s first visit to Haddonfield. Yeah, my opinion hasn’t changed. Stilly ugly as hell in just about every regard. As someone else mentioned, his white trash/hillbilly aesthetic better suited to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Killing the very nice Danny Trejo also unacceptable. I do like the casting of Alex DeLarge as Sam Loomis and Charles Lee Ray as Sheriff Brackett. Excessive violence alone doesn’t create for tension or atmosphere, something lost on Mr. Zombie.
1.5 out of 4

I get the impression that Rob Zombie realized that by telling us everything about Michael Myers and his motives, the character became less scary as a result, so he tried to compensate by getting a 6’8 actor to play him, and making the kills more violent and angry.

We are on the exact same page about this movie it seems. Excessive violence, making Michael Myers 7 feet tall with long hair, white trash child neglect etc. It is laughably un-subtle and completely misses the point of the original. He should have just made his own story and not made it a Halloween remake. His hillbilly stuff works in The Firefly Trilogy, but here it is just ridiculous.

I have the opposite opinion.
I hate remakes because they are usually a shot for shot remake with worse actors and “updated” graphics or cinematography. Etc...
I like that if Rob Zombie wants to remake it, he chose to make it very different. I liked seeing a more trailer trash family. As someone in the field of psychology myself; I enjoyed seeing the motives. The home life. The signs he’s an antisocial sociopath. That was interesting to me. As opposed to being an updated shot for shot reimagined film that was better to begin with with better actors and direction so why remake it?
It’s definitely better than any Halloween sequel.

Even if I agreed with some of what you say, the movie is about as entertaining as a staple to the nuts. Some of the other Halloween sequels are much better because they are actually fun. The first Halloween is a fun movie. Not a depressing and boring pile of white trash with Triple H Michael Myers. I will grant you that the first half is easily the most interesting stuff in the movie, as cliche as it is.

It stops for me with a director using the last name of Zombie.
At least "McG" is something neutral despite being equally stupid and pretentious.
I might listen to a radio show hosted by Wolfman Jack but a movie better have a normal name to it.

His wife's name is Sheri Moon Zombie. His favorite movie is White Zombie (1932) and that is why he changed his last name to Zombie and named his rock band White Zombie.
