A famous person A city or region A profession
You can answer based on how one movie in particular portrayed the category in question, or how movies have portrayed the category in question through the years.

How about Elliot Ness in The Untouchables 1987. He was upset about Nitti threatening his family except the real Ness, I read, had no children. he had a cat. I hate historical inaccuracies like that. At least have Nitti threatening his cat and that is what made Ness what to hurt Capone.
"Hey, nice cat. I said, nice cat.."

A famous person - William Wallace in Braveheart. A city or region - The Achaemenid Empire in 300 A profession - Most films featuring the role of a private investigator, although anyone going into the field of archaeology expecting a career like Indiana Jones' is probably going to be in for a surprise.

This video does a nice job breaking down what The Untouchables (1987) got right and wrong when it comes to historical accuracy. And it also discusses why certain aspects of the story were changed for dramatic effect. Despite the inaccuracies, it's a great movie, and the quote thread was a lot of fun!

A famous person
Braveheart is a pretty strong contender for the worst. Not just the portrayl of Wallace
The representation of Andrew de Moray is terrible...in fact non existent. He's not in the film. Which is like making a film about Stan Laurel's life and not mentioning Oliver Hardy at all. The Scottish armies were their combined forces, under dual command and both were declared "leaders of Scotland" together
Then we have Princess Isabella of France played by 29 year old Sophie Marceau. The princess was about 3 years old at the time.
A city or region
I've seen plenty of TV shows/movies where someone thinks putting a red telephone box on a street and a double decker bus in the background will pass that location off as London.
Recently watched the The Wrecking Crew (1968) where California was being passed off as Denmark!

Towards the end of Bird on a Wire, the main characters are trying to get to St. Louis. A shot of the city as they approach is shown, and it's just some generic city out in the middle of nowhere. No Mississippi River, no Gateway Arch, nothing. Now I know John Badham won't be confused with Spielberg or Scorsese, but c'mon man at least use some stock footage that includes one of the more famous city landmarks in the country.

PT Barnum and Jennie Lind led fascinating lives .... The Greatest Showman did not show them at all accurately. Vital details were pure fabrications.
ditto
Annie Oakley / Annie Get Your Gun Judge Roy Bean in several films Billy the Kid Jesse James

Just watched the Vin Diesel flop Bloodshot. Apparently it was mostly filmed in Cape Town, which is very obvious during a chase through, what is meat to be, London - architecture, roads, police vehicles, number plates....all very wrong. One scene also claims to be in Soho, London. Where it was filmed couldn't be further from what the real Soho looks like.

Whoever that guy was playing Howard Stern in Private Parts was horrible. Nothing like the real person, he should be ashamed of himself.

Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, Bonnie and Clyde--both in appearance and personality; they were nasty, scummy thrill-killers, and Clyde preyed on teenage boys. The scenes in the film which suggest that Clyde and his brother Buck were disturbed by Clyde's killing of a bank employee were nothing like the truth. The gang's habit of knocking over banks as revenge for farmers losing their homes wasn't accurate; this may have been partially true of other outlaws, but not them. They were more likely to hit small stores and gas stations, not for money, but for the sick sport of terrorizing people.
Accounts of the physical appearances of Moses suggest that The Ten Commandments would have been more historically accurate if Edward G. Robinson had been given the starring role instead of a supporting one.

The Untouchables isn't one of my favorite movies because of historical accuracy, it's one of my favorite movies because it's an exciting popcorn movie.
