How do you choose which movies to watch?

Storyline the cast
those are the two main reason how i decide to watch a movie.
I assume you mean watching a movie for the first time and not re watching a movie.

Mondays are repeats Tuesdays are usually films through to 1966 but occasionally I will choose something else. Thursdays are spaghetti western or eurospy (after 1966) and usually films to 1970. Fridays are tv stuff, episodes or tv movies, and things made before 1960 or after 1986 (that's because I consider anything between 1960 and 1986 to be "drive-in fare" that is, I make myself a drive-in style meal instead of just popcorn) so this is the one day I only have popcorn. Saturdays are anything from 1968 to 86... Though I will sometimes watch a second show on select nights. I might watch a pre 1960 movie and then a post 1960 movie. etc.
I hope this has been informative.

I used to blind buy blu rays like crazy (stopped my addiction a few months ago when Twilight Time announced they were ceasing operations), especially ones done by Criterion, Kino, and Twilight Time, so I still have about 30 films I need to watch. I'm still working through those. Otherwise it just depends on the mood I'm in. I tend to drift to films made in the 1950's - 1970's so I usually stick to that era.

New releases? I just try to watch as many as possible. Old releases? A combination of praise (reviews and awards) and personal interest (in the premise and/or who worked in the movie).

If it's just me watching the movie, then I tend to rewatch titles for quote thread purposes. That was true for the last two movies I viewed. The latest was House of Wax (1953). And the movie before that was research for the new quote thread I'm creating tomorrow evening.

So, within that framework, how do you end up choosing a particular film on a given day? If it is a film I haven't seen (or seen in a while), who stars in it, the location, genre...Depends on how I feel. Usually variety is the aim.

I toss some papers with names of movies on them down the stairs and whichever one reaches the bottom stair first is the one I watch.

Mostly it's a spur of the moment, something I read or something reminds me of something that I have been meant to see or haven't seen in a very long time. I usually have a general idea of what I'm going to watch next week and then I change my mind, very often. I make notes and lists the old fashioned way, with pencil and paper. The reason I make notes of certain movies could be the plot and/or actors the I usually like interested me. Sometimes it turns out great and sometimes not so great.

Monthly, I pick out about 3-10 dvds/blus I'm feeling, & often end up watching about 2-6 of those.
Seasonal fare like Jaws, Halloween, & Die Hard are easy pickings.

Random, depending on mood and the genre I feel like watching.
Although, I'm more inclined towards Horror and Sci-fi genres than any other.
