Fairly early on, the three men drive out to the field where Jar Jar Binks gets out to take a leak. The guy in the back seat shoots the driver in the back of the head. Okay, I never saw the driver guy before. Can anybody tell me who the guy driving the car is and why they killed him?
It's a good movie. Just a lot to keep track of! Thanks.

He was a rat that worked for the Corelones, he told Sollozzo where Don Vito would be and at what time during the failed execution attempt

"Leave the gun, take the canoli." Yeah, that's it! That line became part of the pop culture vernacular.

He was a rat that worked for the Corelones, he told Sollozzo where Don Vito would be and at what time during the failed execution attempt He was also conveniently taking a sick day when he was supposed to be guarding the Don with the less than capable Fredo. His name is Paulie Gatto. You see him previously at the wedding. Sonny is kind of a dick to him, and he throws the paparazzi/agent a few bucks after Sonny busts the guy's camera. After the assassination attempt, he wanders in with a hilariously fake cold and Sonny pretends to be sympathetic, then orders the hit on him after he leaves.

Yeah, he's the guy talking about the money in the silk purse at the wedding.

dirtypillows, how did you find the first part compared to how the second part played out? Yeah, I've been thinking about that. I guess I think that the first movie was very good, but the second movie was excellent. Most of the time, sequels are inferior shadows of the original, but in this case, I think Coppola was gaining momentum. That's what it felt like and part 2 was an enlargement of the first movie. (I know I'm not the first person - or the 100th - to say that!) The DeNiro segment was particularly engrossing. I also really enjoyed Lee Strasberg's as the seemingly nice old Jewish man. And despite the film's running time, there wasn't a boring moment. To put it another way, compared to the second part, the first one just felt a little bit unformed. But only in comparison to the sequel. The first movie was great. Regarding my previous derision of the sequel, I couldn't have been more wrong. I hadn't even seen the movie. I guess it just seemed like posturing to me. But this time, no. Now I want to go back and re-read Pauline Kael's reviews for both movies!

Yeah, it just popped into my head. I was being goofy. The guy didn't really look all that much like Jar Jar. More like Jabba the Hut. I liked the character, though.

As I recall, the shooter was Rocco Lampone. He does his job well and rises up the Corleone organization. The photo below shows him with Clemenza and Al Neri in Michael's office at the end. He's also in GF 2. He shoots Hyman Roth in the airport. ![](https://static.fusionmovies.to/images/character/_9qdbrUlLKQDGIl1D0G9DH-Y5t7xOpOFD-7RBRv8-mo7KXETuWVlPTA-8e_DwoYcjIfHKHiM15UenMw_IGSU154VEFOv1caiBHGsLsPYsFg.jpg?1)
