I got in a car crash a while back.
I was turning into a four lane highway. I took possession of my lane. Then I looked in my rear view mirror to check for traffic behind me. Then BAM! This car who was trying to cross 4 lanes of traffic crashed into my front end.
The officer said he couldn’t figure out who was at fault. I was trying to calm the 19 year old woman down. It was her first accident. My son was in the car (10 years old). Finally we were just talking, laughing, I helped her through it.
Finally the officer called an outside department, explained to them the situation (second hand). Then they determined I was at fault. Based on his second hand information. They weren’t even present.
At this point her mother showed up. She takes her to the side. Whispers some things to her. She comes back and says, “I think my neck hurts, I need an ambulance.” I was like “wtf”... literally 10 minutes ago were we’re laughing and joking and she told the police she was fine and didn’t need an ambulance.
Then the officer said, “I would contest this ticket if I were you.” So I got a letter from a law firm the girl and her mother went to. Saying I needed to pay for her hospital bills and all this jazz. My insurance company (the only competent person in this scenario) got both of our statements and declared I wasn’t at fault based on the traffic laws. They refused to pay for her car.
Then I went to court today and won! Now I’m not at fault. I have no points against my license, I have no ticket, paid no fine, and told them to suck it.
Now this poor 19 year old girl has medical bills, busted car, and legal fees because they tried to get a pay day! That mom is trash. She was fine until her mom showed up and whispered “money” into her ears.

It was thrown out. So now, I am not at fault and cannot he sued. Also, she was stupid enough to give a statement to my insurance company. She is on audio saying she was crossing the 4 lanes. I have the right of way as being the driver on the main road. So she basically admitted fault, but didn’t realize she did. Her lawsuit was based on me being charged at fault. Which now I’m not.

That's great! It's weird the police couldn't determine fault. Seems pretty cut and dried. I'm not fond of insurance companies, but they hate to pay out and have experts on their side who can make these determinations. Good for you!!!!!

Maybe the police officer thought that giving you a ticket was wrong so he didn't show up. Which meant it would be ruled in favor of you.

Congrats. Stinks for the girl, but it seems she has to learn the hard way that her mother doesn't always know best.
