And your favorite film by them. A lot of contenders, but I'm going with Hong Sang-soo. Though I still have plenty to see, I love picking up the subtle differences in his intimate formal romantic dramas that play like endless variations on the same film. Catman has not seen enough South Korean cinema to have a favorite director yet.

I've only seen 1 Hong sand so film but it was great. Must explore more and must watch more from before 1990s. I'd have to go Lee Chang Dong or Park Chan Wook. My top 28 films by S Korean directors: ![](https://i.imgur.com/Me25x5W.png)

I've seen three from both Kim Jee-woon and Bong Joon-ho that I really liked a lot.

My top 28 films by S Korean directors: Lee Chang Dong is the one I need to catch up on, I've only seen Burning, which would probably make my Top 5 S. Korean films.

The only ones I know by name are Bong Joon-Ho, Park Chan-Wok and Kim Ki-Duk (whatever happened to him? I haven't heard of any new film by him in quite some time). I guess my favourite from those is Bong Joon-Ho

He's actually directed quite a few films but none of them have had the profile of those two.

I think Burning is good but nowhere near Lee's best. Oasis and Secret sunshine are great. I'm yet to see Poetry and I can't find his earlier films.

I guess my favourite from those is Bong Joon-Ho Kim Ki Duk is still prolific. Last film was in 2019, and churns them out regularly. His profile took a hit during the MeToo movement unfortunately. The Isle, The Bow and Time are great films of his.
