Sick of wearing glasses/contacts every damn day. I don’t have vision insurance, but I meet the other qualifications (steady eye prescription, etc) and I’ve heard it’s about $5000 for both eyes. I’ve heard that after a few years people start having issues like dry eyes.

Nope, good probability you will need another procedure to correct the first one from another more experienced provider. That is the dirty secret within the LASIK industry.
You might experienced fuzziness or glares during night vision. Not everyone would have same experiences but you should do much more consultations and ask from more refrences who had LASIK.

I was considering this some years ago and even met a LASIK doctor about it. He answered all my specific concerns with generic answers like "it's going to be all right", "that doesn't happen often" and so on. I got the impression that he didn't give a shit about anything else than having me sign a contract, which I did not do. I can manage without glasses and the risk just seemed too big. Dry eye symptom was and still is my biggest concern too, since the chance of that happening isn't that small, even officially, and it can really fuck up your quality of life. For me, it was a case of not that much to gain and much to lose. I suggest anyone considering LASIK (or, really, any kind of eye surgery) to spend enough evenings reading about the subject. I can't image that LASIK would be so controversial without good reason.

I don't think it's worth it. Everyone I know who has had it has had some type of issue with it, and regrets it. At first it's wonderful, but then one had dry eye and problems seeing at night, another had what she called a halo effect with her vision. I see it as I have only two eyes, and if this procedure screws it up, I'm done. I've worn glasses for 45 years, and I'm okay with it.

Sick of wearing glasses/contacts every damn day. I don’t have vision insurance, but I meet the other qualifications (steady eye prescription, etc) and I’ve heard it’s about $5000 for both eyes. I’ve heard that after a few years people start having issues like dry eyes. come to europe (when covid is over or vaccine is ready) and get it done for 2500 at the same quality. yeah its worth it. I personally know 3 people who had it done and all are super happy and had no issues.

I know two people who have had it done and both are extremely happy with the results.

My old man had it done at the beginning of the year, he was aware that there could be complications, but felt it was worth the risk as otherwise he would have had to give up driving fairly soon. I can't comment about long term effects, but in the short term, he's extremely happy to have 20/20 vision at the age of 82. Lol I didn't know if you were saying your dad or your BF. LOL I thought you were male nogbad but wasn't sure ( guess a man could have an 'old man') God bless your dad for being so positive at 82! May he have lots of good use from the lasik!

I think having a lens replacement would be better off. Same procedure for those with the beginning onset of cataract would get instead of having a laser reshape your corneas by shaving the top layers off with a laser.
*Edit: Still might occasionally need reading glasses even if your vision improves to 20/20.

Some people who have had lasik commit suicide because of excruciating pain.
