Tatiana Maslany was reportedly cast to play She-Hulk in the MCU, but the Orphan Black star says these reports are unfortunately not true.
Tatiana Maslany denies the reports that she has been cast in Marvel's She-Hulk Disney+ series. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has almost always had a Hulk play a prominent role in the ongoing story, and Phase 4 will see the introduction of a new one. Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk will debut in the coming years and star in her own Disney+ show. Marvel confirmed She-Hulk was in-development last summer at D23.
Over the last few months, Marvel has made significant strides in getting She-Hulk ready to begin production before the end of the year. Kat Coiro was hired to direct the Disney+ show and paved the way for the reveal of who will play the titular role. It was reported shortly thereafter that Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany would be She-Hulk in the MCU. The news excited many and spawned multiple pieces of fan art imagining what
Maslany will look like as She-Hulk. However, reports of her joining the MCU are not true, according to Maslany.
Maslany recently spoke to the Regina Leader-Post and was asked about her casting as She-Hulk for the Disney+ show. After the interviewer noted how big of a deal it is that she'll play a Marvel superhero next, Maslany jumped in and said that her playing She-Hulk "isn't a real thing." She says she has no idea how the news spread so far and quickly but vehemently denied the reports.
That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand. It’s totally not — I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.
It isn't uncommon for actors linked to major superhero roles to deny their involvement, especially when it comes to the MCU. Paul Rudd repeatedly denied that he would play Ant-Man and still went on to play the part. This has even been seen recently with Jonathan Majors responding to reports that he'll play Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man 3. MCU cast members aren't usually allowed to discuss their roles until Marvel has confirmed them, and they have yet to do so for Maslany.
That could explain why she denies the reports of the casting, but there's also still a chance that her deal may have fallen through, leaving Marvel still in search of their She-Hulk. Hopefully, that isn't the case, though, as Maslany is a perfect choice to play She-Hulk in the MCU. If it turns out that she is telling the truth now, it will be interesting to see who is cast instead and what the response is to anyone other than Maslany leading She-Hulk.
