I'm just learning that there was a 7.4 quake off the northwest coast of Alaska, this afternoon. From what I've seen, there is a tsunami warning, but it is confined to other parts of coastal Alaska.
If any posters are in Alaska, please let us know any details, and how you are faring.

as someone who grew up on the west coast of canada, pacific rim earthquakes that have high magnitudes don't tend to kill many people, if they do at all. it's a sparsely populated area.

I imagine that must have happened either near Anchorage or The Aleutian Islands because I heard there were tsunami warnings. I'm just fine up North in Kotzebue

I used to live in Alaska. We had a lot of earthquakes, a couple volcanoes erupt, not to mention a record cold winter; and now they are a covid hotspot. The military (Oil, the military, and tourism are AK bread and butter) are prohibited from a lot of activities off base because Alaskans aren't wearing their masks and social distancing.
