I wanted to hear your opinions on the film Prisoners with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal...because I really enjoyed it IMO. For me, this is one of the most intense and suspenseful thrillers that I've seen in at least the past 10 years, holy shit is it INTENSE! The performances alone were Oscar-worthy and the direction/cinematography is among the best in the genre IMO. Plus, I just loved how it almost feels like a horror film and the director, who also did Arrival and Sicario...is one of the best in recent years and reminds me of David Fincher in style and tone. 8.5/10. Agree?

Hasn't anybody seen this excellent film? I think it's one of the best thrillers in recent years IMO.

Yes, i liked it a lot as well. To me it was decent story and script, but it was elevated by an excellent director who got the most out of the material. He got a great cast together and pulled superior performances out of them, and any time you get Roger Deakins to shoot your film you know it's going to look great. But Denis Villenueve (not going to look up if that's spelled correctly) shot and paced the movie perfectly also. I liked the movie a lot, but it mostly made me interested to see the director's other work, namely, when he got some really great material to work with. Sicario and Arrival certainly did not disappoint, and I'm really looking forward to Blade Runner and Dune, even though I wish he would focus on original stories.

Yes, I really enjoyed that movie as well! It was thrilling with great performances. It was scary without any over-the top kind of explosions or goriness with a focus on the characters while building up the suspense.

I couldn't agree with you more, movieman30. "Prisoners" made a big impression on me.

Yeah, it really is an effective mystery thriller that you can't forget IMO. The film has this haunting absorbing quality that is executed through it's stunning atmosphere and great performances...not to mention a subtly disturbing yet realistic sense of dread. For me, the feeling and mood of the story is among the most chilling in recent memory and the director is the next David Fincher in terms of his style and visual storytelling skill. Also, I've always been a fan of dark films anyway and I knew it would be something memorable. It should've neen nominated for more oscars than just cinematography, which it definitely deserved obviously. If you're interested in checking out the director's other films...I recommend Arrival and Enemy. I own Sicario but haven't really watched the whole film yet...however it is very interesting so far.

I agree with you about that Jillian. It's subtly eerie and actually has a horror-ish vibe and tone but in a realistic story IMO. One of the main reasons is of course due to the great cinematography and setting. Any favorite scenes?
