In every review I read from this movie the opening scene is raved about. Some even saying it is one of the best scenes in any horror movie. Thought they then say the movie degenerates onto schlock. Still I don’t think I’ve seen a movie where a specific scene is always mentioned on pretty much every review

I mean, what would you call a scene where a hundred people get bisected in an otherwise generic, sloppy mess of a movie if not the one scene worth mentioning. The laser hallway in Resident Evil is another one.

It's the only thing memorable about the film. I saw it in the theater and that's really the only thing I remember outside of a scene that included a closet (I think). The only worse horror film I remember seeing theatrically during the same period was Fear Dot Com.

Funny enough, I saw the movie for the first time this year and thought that opening scene hurt the flick as a whole. Yes, the scene’s memorable, but it also lets us know what happened to the ship—making what’s-her-name’s wondering if she saw a ghost girl and that sort of thing all anticlimactic.

The abduction scene in Fire in the Sky could be a similar comparison
