What's wrong with Chick-Fil-A and Yuengling? My more woke liberal friends do not like those business's conservative politics. Personally, it would have to be Ford and Disney pre-WWII level politics before I'd stop purchasing stuff from a company whose product I really like. If Republicans buy sneakers, liberals buy chicken biscuits. I figured they were a morally and ethically superior company - considered they're passing up on profits by closing on Sundays - that being God's day and all....

Hey, fair enough. To answer your question, yes. I would still cheer them on. If they bring it up I'll mute/change the channel on the tv. People seem to have forgotten how to do that...

Chick-fil-a had some anti-gay marriage messages coming from the founder or CEO, I can't remember which. Especially with those kinds of places, though, franchisees can be very different than the founders and CEOs. The closest Chick-fil-a to me had Unity flags out in the aftermath of that controversy, so even if I was inclined to "punish" companies, the harm would have been to that particular owner more so than top-of-the-food-chain guy.

The economy would collapse if people truly stopped supporting companies run by CEO’s with politics that are either different than theirs or just flat out repulsive. I don’t know anything about the politics of whoever runs Lowe’s, but I live across the street from one so if I need something I’ll go there. If their CEO gets all Mel Gibsony then I’ll shop somewhere else.
As for Ben Simmons, a) I would think most African American athletes supports Biden, especially those in the NBA, and b) who gives a shit about who that Kardashian banger supports?

How do you feel about Wentzy being a bible banging ultra conservative Trumper?

People who "boycott" Goya, who took assault rifles to their keurig machines and Yeti mugs. They're all fucking stupid. Sure, give up your season tickets, nobody cares. You'll just be buying single-game tickets whenever you want them and watching the games on TV, just like the other people are already buying Goya beans again, and those other nimrods had to replace their keurigs and Yetis within days of destroying their own belongings that they paid for. Twitter is basically the planet's testing ground for what can be the nadir of human intelligence.

I agree. I assume he eats what he shoots but who knows. He grew up in bumfuck North Dakota, all they do there is hunt and make more North Dakotans. I didn’t watch a single game during the Michael Vick years. We choose what we can and can’t accept. Before I realized what a piece of trash he is I liked Ted Nugent’s music. Today though my thought is that I could very easily go the rest of my life without hearing Cat Scratch Fever again. I barely watch the NBA as it is. If Simmons and Embiid come out as pro Trump it won’t affect me much other than realizing I had overestimated their intelligence.

All of these years later - after he served his time, all the charity he does, he appears to be a changed man
Can you find it in your heart to forgive him or no?

I do feel he is repentant and a changed person and that he knows why what he did is so terrible. I also realize it’s a bit of a cultural thing where he grew up. I’m not the forgiving type though, not for things that I truly disagree with. Nobody’s perfect, judge not lest thee be judged etc, but at least I never took part in a dogfighting ring.

That's exactly where I was going to go -
The culture of where he grew up as a kid. If I'm not mistaken - he and A.I. grew up in the same neighborhood.
He does seem like a changed man - albeit a horrific act(s) he committed in the past.
I think everybody deserves 2nd chances in life - the problem is when you blow that 2nd chance.
To my knowledge (and I may be wrong) - he appears to be on the straight and narrow - a changed human being who's saying and doing all the right things - for years.

Even as a non-American who has never visited Chick-fil-A, I know the name because of at least 100s of threads created on them on religion board of old IMDB. A black guy used to say he loved having their stuff because it was tasty and he didn't care about their political inclination. But many pointed out they were disgusted by it. I personally may not actively support an organisation that goes against an acceptable level of ethics that I believe businesses should maintain. Although I wouldn't want government to interfere with any business if they don't want to provide me their service because of my sexual orientation or their dubious religious beliefs.

The political opinions of athletes I like don’t really matter to me, I like them for their sporting achievements. So I would still support my favorite players and teams regardless of politics.

It's one of those things. I have no idea what the political opinions are of any one on any of my teams. Collingwood President Eddie Maguire comes across as a raging SJW one day and the next is saying that Adam Goodes, after being called an ape by a Collingwood supporter, should help advertise the new King Kong movie. The sheer hypocrisy of that annoys me more than the most SJW thing Eddie has ever said.
In my personal interactions I used to think political opinions were that important and that I, a lefty journalist, couldn't possibly be friends with a right wing person. Then I grew up. I'm a slightly conservative leaning vaguely libertarian centrist these days. Vote for whoever you want to vote for. It shouldn't define you.
