Fist fighting for this Irish Beauty as much as you like as long as you beat Victor McLaglen.
Yes, she would have been hundred this year, but she left us five years ago at the impressive age of 95.
Maureen O Hara 1920 - 2015
O'Hara grew up in Dublin, when it was still British, in a Catholic family and aspired to become an actress from a very young age.
As the years went on...She was given a screen test, which was deemed unsatisfactory, but Charles Laughton saw potential and arranged for her to co-star with him in Alfred Hitchcock's Jamaica Inn in 1939.
She moved to Hollywood the same year to appear with him in the production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and was given a contract by RKO Pictures. From there, she went on to enjoy a long and highly successful career
Esmaralda 1939
Not all movies were great, but enjoyable, and some went on to be classics.
Lovely Angharad of How Green Was My Valley 1941
The Black Swan 1942, with Tyrone Power
Noir with John Garfield in The Fallen Sparrow 1943
Thousand and Night-ish with Douglas Fairbanks Jr Sinbad the Sailor 1947
Part of Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street 1947, with Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) and a young Natalie Wood.
Hiring a male nanny could solve problems, a huge comedy it of it day 1948 Sitting Pretty, with Robert Young (before Father Knows Best) and Clifton Webb.
One kiss and they were friends for live, Rio Grande 1950
Hugging the best thing in Kangaroo 1952
Love at first sight, but Victor McLaglen was in the way, Duke and Maureen just was a match, The Quiet Man 1952.
Well it had to happen, pity it was a low-budget production, Lady Godiva 1955
Who is who and who is what? Our Man in Havana 1959, with Alec Guinness
Sam Peckinpah and Maureen, well somehow it worked out in The Deadly Companions 1961
With Hayley Mills or her twin in The Parent Trap 1961
Worry about the ceiling?, James Stewart will fix it or not in Mr Hobbs takes a Vacation 1962
"I thought you Were Dead!" but there he was with Maureen for the last time, with John Wayne" in Big Jake 1971, this was the fifth and last movie they did together.
Well that was the last we heard of Maureen, she made a TV movie based on John Steinbeck's The Red Pony 1973 with Henry Fonda, too.
Only the Lonely 1991, Chris Columbus wrote the script with Maureen O'Hara in mind for the role of the mother. Once casting had begun, he insisted on having O'Hara play the role, and began a search for her. What he didn't know, was that she had long since retired, and was living on St. Croix in the U.S.Virgin Islands. Knowing her brother Charles B. Fitzsimons (a TV producer and brother of Maureen) was still in the movie industry, Columbus contacted him, and had a script sent. O'Hara's brother then sent the script to her, and said, "This you do!" After reading the script herself, Maureen contacted her brother and said, "This I do!"
Maureen did another three TV movies, The Christmas Box 1995, Cab to Canada 1998 and The Last Dance 2000.
The mentioned movies is far from complete! They are just examples,
Thanks for watching!
Opinions of all kinds are very welcome!!
