If you look at the complete player I would say Mike Schmidt. If you look at strictly defense I would say Brooks Robinson. Graig Nettles is worthy of mention also if you are only referring to defense.

He didn't have the offensive numbers of the other two, but his fielding skills were next to none.

I want to rank them 1 and 1a. Schmidt by a fraction. Brett is my favorite non-Phillie player of all time. I've always loved the fact that the two greatest third basemen in history were contemporaries of each other.
