It's been forty years since this mysterious monument was constructed by a mysterious society of anonymous do-gooders. For the first time I'm seeing a drone's view of the structure. I didn't know it had cuts in it to align with the solstice and the North Star. Enjoy.

Looking at the comments, a lot of people seem to be scared of what this might represent and want it destroyed. What do you make of this, Herald?

I think it was put there for a sinister purpose, especially the part about maintaining the world's population at 1/2 a billion people. We're about 14x that now. I have a theory that if you took a poll and asked if the world's population needs to be reduced many people would say yes without thinking about it, because they imagine the reduction will only apply to groups that they're not in.

A little context on their 10 commandments would have been nice. One possibility in my mind is this was put there as some sort of guidelines to people in a post-apocalyptic world, far enough in the future that they may need some hints on how to reform civilization. If so the designers of this are not necessarily advocating killing anyone or anything sinister. The #2 suggestion is the more problematic to me. Diversity is good but telling folks to "improve fitness" via guiding reproduction is almost never going to be a good idea.

Diversity is good but telling folks to "improve fitness" via guiding reproduction is almost never going to be a good idea. When I first learned about them all those years ago I thought the same thing. I checked the elevation once and they are located on high ground, and not affected by the new coastlines on various future maps available. I didn't know about the time capsule with no date for its opening, but a date can be carved on it later. A few years ago the inside corner of one of the slabs was carved away and a stone cube with numbers on it was placed there. It reminded me of a doubling cube for backgammon. The cube was removed and the official story was that vandals had done it. I don't buy that. I think the organization which made it is still involved with it.
