I'm going out with friends. The restaurant is French, and I don't know if they'll tweak their menu to reflect Thanksgiving. If they do, I'll probably do something traditional. If not, I have their lamb, or Cassoulet.

Nothing. Too many in my family are immune compromised. I suggested we all make a full on family dinner, then proceed to eat each selection in front of the video cam. My brothers said they could drink more since they're already home. I'll have to have my mute on since they tend to progressively get louder as the night goes on....

Pea, that's a wise decision, and a great solution. Dr. Fauci has said that his 3 children aren't coming home, for Thanksgiving.
Moreover, it seems that every year there are jokes about families who dread the obligatory get-together, due to past grievances, political differences, etc..
Perhaps, in this small way, Covid is leading to some sighs of relief.

i'm thinking ham or fish... what's everyone's favorite t-giving side dish? Stuffing as long as its not stuffed in the bird. I buy Reiser's stuffing every year and have with Chicken Kiev - thats what we're having tomorrow. I went to Publix this morning and they just put it out so I bought 3 tubs, I'll probably buy 3 more because the expiration date is Dec.24, They only make it this time of year, I wish they made it year round. When I was a kid my Thanksgiving plate was stuffing , mashed potatoes, peas and a bunch of olives - no turkey. Also would not touch the cranberries, sweet potatoes and other side dishes.

Although pizza has become my Thanksgiving tradition (with Chinese take-out reserved for Christmas), I probably will cook a turkey. The deals are really good, I do enjoy turkey (having it for breakfast in fact), and I really like the leftovers and stock that I make.
The last time I cooked one (Eastertime), I broke several of the "rules" - including cooking it upside-down in a Brown-in Bag at a reduced temperature. That was one ugly bird, looked nothing at all like the pretty, roasted-skin turkey you see in the classic pictures, but it was very moist, juicy, and tender.

I don't cook a whole turkey because it'd be too much for just the two of us. So. I compromise by roasting a 4-5 pound turkey breast and serving it with rye bread & swiss cheese (for sammies) and instead of mashed taters I make mashed sweet taters. Delicious!

These are great for just two people. Cornish Hens. Or do like I do sometimes. Make them in a gas grill. Called Beer Can Chicken.

I have to say that beer can chicken does not look the slightest bit appetizing to me but it looks like something that might be popular in the most rural parts of the south. I wonder if it tastes more like the can than the beer but I am unlikely to ever know.

anyone making any special beverages? Not I. The nice people in the "wine country," work so hard at that. I couldn't do a better job than they do.
