Haven't thought about it. Since getting laid off, I don't know Friday from Tuesday or holidays from non-holidays.

I have to say that beer can chicken does not look the slightest bit appetizing to me but it looks like something that might be popular in the most rural parts of the south. I wonder if it tastes more like the can than the beer but I am unlikely to ever know. Seriously you should try it. When I make it the meat is so tender it falls right off the bone. "I wonder if it tastes more like the can than the beer"
Not at all. You taste neither the beer or the can. The beer just helps to keep the chicken moist. I do put some spices in the beer can. You don't even need to use beer. Pepsi or coke will work. Hint: Only use 3/4s of the can of beer or pop. That way no chance of it boiling over. You don't need to but I suggest you get this (or if making two chickens the second picture) It helps to keep them upright. Plus if you don't have a gas grill you can make them on a charcoal grill:

"what kinda wine?"
At the restaurant, I usually order Sancerre. Although, a couple of weeks ago the price of their glasses of wine had shot up, in price, amazingly. I think that's because restaurants ... like so many businesses ... are suffering financially, and alcohol is one area where they're trying to make up for some of the loss.
We've talked about ordering a bottle, rather than glasses.

Every Thanksgiving guest, family or not, may be a Trojan horse for the virus, which is waiting to be passed around an intimate indoor environment of people in close contact for hours or days.

Haven't thought about it. Since getting laid off, I don't know Friday from Tuesday or holidays from non-holidays. Having been "between jobs right now" for quite a while, the same thing is true for me. The problem with being unemployed though is that I never get a day off. With turkey on sale right now (47 cents/lb. for Safeway Select - a decent enough bird), I'm going to pick up a fairly large one tomorrow morning. It takes about one day per four pounds to thaw in the refrigerator, so I'll cook it up next Monday or Tuesday. I didn't take any notes for the last one I roasted (will this time), but essentially, I'm going to cook it in a brown-in bag, upside-down, at a reduced temperature for a longer time. I'll inject it with a mixture of clarified butter, chicken stock, and assorted spices. Mostly I just want the meat with the skin and bones used for outstanding stock; a lot of it will just be frozen. I have a very good recipe for Southwestern Turkey Soup I came up with last time, so I'll make a big pot of that (and freeze most of it too).

Probably turkey, cranberry sauce, corn on the cob with paprika/oregano/cheese, fermented mashed potatoes, turkey gravy. Might do a duck or goose instead.

Moreover, it seems that every year there are jokes about families who dread the obligatory get-together, due to past grievances, political differences, etc.. There were some funny stories posted here last year about what was expected to happen at Thanksgiving meals and get togethers.

Peel and cut up potatoes about a week ahead, put in a bowl with about 3% brine, cover with a towel and leave on the counter until Thanksgiving then make as usual. Best mashed potatoes you'll ever eat.

I was scared the first time, wondering if I was going to get botulism. But I've fermented lots of stuff, the salt prevents nasty things from growing and it's only out for a week which is nothing. You can refrigerate which is only brining potatoes, also delicious.

Well,my plan for Cornish hens went out the window yesterday when her church gave the Mrs a Butterball turkey,no weight label but looks to be about 12/14 lbs.We went grocery shopping today and she's making me crazy. It is just the two of us but she bought 4 boxes of stovetop stuffing,4 lbs of elbow macaroni for mac n cheese,5 lbs sweet potatoes and a bunch of other stuff ALL of which she plans to cook. I'll spatchcock the turkey into two separate halves and do mine as instructed and she'll do her half using her method,as instructed then turn the oven up and cook for another hour. sigh.
