Maybe his politics got in the way? Like his ex-wife, he is an outspoken liberal and some don’t care for that.

He was kind of a milder Donald Sutherland type. Getting killed by Tom Cruise while his daughter is singing in the outer room probably didn't help matters.

I’m not sure why it wasn’t considered mellow at the time of Mystic River.
The dude is an older actor that is still in a lot of stuff.
What he win an Oscar for wasn’t even his movie.

I have about 18 of his movies on dvd. Love this guy. I hope he catches a break. I watched Cadillac Man - 90' for the first time earlier on in the year. I hadn't seen before. It was just ok and I bought it because it is a hard to find dvd now and was only about a buck in an op shop. Thing with Robbins though, I tend to forget him easily. His presence just tends to dissipate around everyone else around him. When I think of Howard The Duck - 86', which I love, I think of Howard, Lea Thompson, Jeffrey Jones, The Dark Overlord, oh and yeah, and that Robbins dude is in it too. When I think of Dead Man Walking - 95', Robbins is one of the first things that comes to mind and he doesn't even star in it. What a terrific job he did here. Have read the book too. That's one of the movies I have on dvd, 'Cadillac Man' - directed by Roger Donaldson and features one of Lori Petty's comic performances that landed her 'Tank Girl', according to her friend Malcolm McDowell.
I like alot of his movies critics today would be dismissive of. I've seen 'Howard The Duck' and 'Fraternity Vacation' so many times it hurts, not to mention 'Jacob's Ladder', 'The Player', 'Shawshank' etc.
I have another reason to like Tim Robbins though. It's a long story, but he came up with tight friends Peter Gallagher, John Cusack and James Spader, all of whom I like. If you match up their films, you'll see them working with each other off an on, over an extended period of time. Jennifer Jason Leigh was a favourite actress of all of them, they were all vocal about Holly Hunter too. But what interests me most is how they became entangled with an older group of tight actors consisting primarily of Fred Ward, Ed Harris, and Scott Glenn who's my main man ... so my personal fandom has many roots to the robin's branch.

I think Jacob's Ladder and Shawshank suffer a bit because of Robbins presence and I do like both films. It's like I feel he needs a jolt to wake him up a bit. His looks helped a lot in his heyday. Interesting he never actually married Susan Sarandon. Sarandon has always been one of my favourites. Neither of their boys seem to have inherited their parents more interesting good/unique looks.
You're right about their liberal politics though. Unlike some actors who mention their views, these two hammer everybody over the head with them. I'm happy to disagree with Susan Sarandon on a regular basis but I still think she's a fine actress.

Sarandon is in a class of her own as an actress. In her heyday, she could be anything. I wonder if their split up was to do with a divisive tear in political views. There was 12yrs between them too. At any rate, Sarandon could say anything to me, insult me, spit on me, hit me, kick me, I would still lie prostrate before her. I can't speak to that, in all honesty (I only know some of their movies), but I can raise a glass to you. Cheers and good health, and I wish you a good weekend.
And here's a picture too, because I f'ing love Tim Curry and his health has been really poor in recent years (he says for every bad review he's ever read he's sank "a bottle wth bells on" lol). He should make a movie with Malcolm McDowell and Scott Glenn, that'd be nice for me at least.

Tim Curry would be difficult to cast and McDowell and Glenn are very long in the tooth. Perhaps they could do a Grumpy even Grumpier Old Men film. Sounds good to me! 'Grumpiest Old Men', coming to a cinema near ...

Sounds good to me! 'Grumpiest Old Men', coming to a cinema near ... Irascible Grumpier Old Men, coming soon to theatres nowhere....... Irascible Free-Flowing Grumpier Old Men, patiently awaiting big nappies from UPS during pandemic delays, coming soon to theatres nowhere.......
... the possibilities are literally endless in this case and there's no shortage of old-age actors still seeking work over death.
