James Earl Jones gets most of the credit for Vader, but we should not overlook the phyisical contributions of David Prowse.

And Frankenstein's Monster in two Hammer films.
He also trained Christopher Reeve for Superman the Movie.
He said in 1977 that he felt Darth Vader was the star of Star Wars and I think in terms of publicity he was.

He was a profiltic personality in the history of Star Wars. His stature and body language gave Darth Vader the menacing presence needed for the character. I recall reading that he was upset his voice was dubbed over by James Earl Jones. And somehow, someway, he told a group of fans the twist for The Empire Strikes Back based on a random guess two years before shooting even began. Rest in peace, David Prowse.

James Earl Jones gets most of the credit for Vader, but we should not overlook the phyisical contributions of David Prowse. I used to think any big guy could've played Vader, but rewatching the originals made me realize that Vader had a big presence in the way he moved. Made me appreciate Prowse's performance. He was a big part of his character. I heard George Lucas didn't like him and vice versa. Fell out in Return of the Jedi, I think.
