Bravos released him.
If you can't make it there, you can't make it anywhere.

That was their intent when they play the American League, but he couldn't hit in the minors.

When you stop taking 'roids your body has difficulty producing testosterone naturally, so you're in a worse position than when you started. Howard should have hit up David Ortiz to get some of those designer PEDs Little Papi was taking toward the end of his career.

What happened to him? I remember he used to be a beast. I dont keep up with baseball as much anymore. The real reason is that he never really recovered from tearing his Achilles tendon whilst making the last out of the 2011 NLDS. From then on, his numbers took a precipitous nosedive. His OPS had been dropping in the years leading up to that so the markings were there before that for him to slow down anyway, but that injury really exacerbated his drop. He was basically immediately reduced to a shadow of his former self after that.

His entire career.

Howard never took steroids. He was a top 5 player for about five years. That injury at the end of 2011 basically ended his career. He also was never really able to hit left handed pitching, which once he stopped hitting 40+ homeruns a year became a problem.
