The first one is more fun, but the second has a better story and characters.

There's a pretty big difference between the two. The first GOTG usually ranks somewhere in the top 5 of MCU movies, whereas GOTG2 generally ranks at least bottom half if not bottom third.

Both are excellent, but very different. The first film is fun from start to finish, has a really catchy soundtrack and tons of laughs. It's the MCU version of Star Wars.
Vol.2 feels more akin to Star Trek (I'm looking at you, Star Trek V!). The soundtrack isn't as good and it takes a good while to really get going. The second half is fantastic, however, and I prefer its villain and final act over that of the first.
All in all, the original is more consistent, so it wins my vote. But by a narrow enough margin.

I maybe in the minority, but I found vol. 2 to be more memorable.

I maybe in the minority, but I found vol. 2 to be more memorable. The ending of vol 2 was horrific. So it was memorable in a nightmare sense.

I voted them as equal. They're my two favorite movies in the MCU. Guardians of the Galaxy is a perfect movie in my opinion, it's structure and pace makes the runtime fly by like it's a 30 minute TV show but not at the expense of treating us to plenty of time with these characters. It's a masterpiece of adventure storytelling and the closest thing the MCU has gotten to the original Star Wars. Vol 2 takes a different approach, it's less about structure and pace and more about letting you just hang out with these characters and letting the characters develop without something constantly needing to happen. It's the closest the MCU has gotten to a Tarantino movie, and it works for its entire runtime. Which is better depends purely on which I prefer watching at the moment.

I think you're a Star Wars fan that stumbled into an MCU showing at a cinema by luck than anything else.

The original is superior, but vol. 2 is still a solid flick.

I've seen every MCU movie opening weekend dating back to Iron Man in 2008, but thanks for taking such interest in my life.
