I don’t agree with this choice, but I understand their decision.

I guess they don't want the internet meltdown. Maybe they could bring in Kasper Cole in a future film?

Saw this comment...
Black Panther 2 is just 90 minutes of Shuri, the Wakandan Science Minister, watching YouTube videos and denying Wakandans access to the Covid vaccine.

They should have recast. Chadwick was good but he wasn't irreplaceable. Any Twitter outrage would've vanished in a day. Odd decision that will disable Marvel in future in my opinion. As a user said here there's other characters they could pass the mantle on to but the unique selling point is the African accent superhero. Never been a fan of Shuri or at least this MCU version taking on the mantle either.

Yeah I doubt I'll be watching Black Panther II. I hope it's good and I hope people like it, but I just can't.

But I feel strongly that a recast would’ve been the best way to honor the legacy. Another choice would’ve been just cancelling the series. They picked the worst of three bad options IMO.

I know it's not a popular opinion on this thread, but I'm personally glad he's not being recast. The next movie should feature a new character in the role.

I've gone over the plot of Black Panther 2 many times in my head since this idiotic decision not to recast... And guess what... Tchalla comes up every fucking time. Black Panther robots would need to be approved by King Tchalla, a new guy taking on the Black Panther identity would have to be approved by King Tchalla and Wakanda being under threat would need King Tchalla to address the nation. There's no way out of this for Marvel. I never thought I'd say this: Marvel is good but not that good.

T'Challa is dead and his successor (his sister or perhaps a close cousin) inherits the throne and the position of Black Panther. Regardless of what they choose to do, I think Marvel have proven by this stage that they're adept at complex world-building and will find a way to make this sequel work. Of course, I could end up being wrong and we get another Iron Man 2 instead, but I intend to remain optimistic and have faith in their abilities.

Killing off Tchalla for good instead of simply just recasting instead? You could've just saved your fingers and said I'm right. Your future story also stinks because we would have to fill in the gaps, plot holes and age the cast to fit the future look. And who or what would've killed T'challa in this future of yours? Marvel has succeeded because they were forward thinkers and can adapt but they haven't on this occasion. Sooner or later they will have to recast T'challa you know that right?

It doesn't have to be decades ahead or anything like that. Say 4 years and T'Challa has been killed in an event that serves as the springboard for the film's plot. The kingdom is in crisis mode as a result. As for who could be behind his death - I'm personally keen on the idea of Doctor Doom. His global ambitions and their impact on neighbouring African territories have led to conflict between his regime and Wakanda.

I am of the view that Chadwick Boseman succeeded in defining the character of T'Challa in a very fundamental and specific way in the 2018 film. T'Challa isn't Bruce Wayne or Clarke Kent - charaxcters who have figured large in popular culture for decades and who have been portrayed by multiple actors over the years. I love the Marvel movies but read few of the comics and had never even heard of the character until shortly before the movie's release. And that would be true of a huge proportion of the audience. Boseman gave him life and I think he should be retired out of respect for the late actor's legacy. Let that character rest and find a successor to the Black Panther mantle. There can still be a Black Panther. It just won't be T'Challa.

Just because his actor died doesn't mean T'challa has to die either what an idiotic mentality that you and sadly Marvel have. You can have these views because you're a nobody but a global entertainment juggernaut like Marvel I expect better from. T'challa has decades of adventures left in him a dead actor shouldn't affect that.

Only time will tell whether it works out in the end. I'm well aware of the risk that the sequel could turn out to be a disaster but am going to continue hoping for the best.
