The typical 4 member pop/rock band formation consists of a vocalist, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer. If you could pick artists from any band (or even solo arists) from any time period and put them into such a four-piece band, who would you assemble? Regarding the split between the 4 different instruments, note that often it isn't that straightforwards, f.e. with The Beatles they had 3 vocalists (and occasionally 4 with Ringo joining in as well) who all three could play both (lead/rhythm) guitar and bass. To keep it simple I stuck to the standard vocalist, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer division, but of course you're allowed to pick a vocalist who also plays another instrument, a guitarist who also plays another instrument etc.
Here's my 'ultimate band'. I didn't per se pick my 4 favorite musicians, but just a combination of 4 artists who I think would make some stellar music together. Just imagine Lou Reed's experimental and hypnotic Velvet Underground-like style combined with the krautrock and almost robotic like drumming of Liebezeit, the absolute brilliance of Jimi's guitar playing and Tina's insanely groovy bass. They would've made some epic funk rock music jams. To be honest I didn't think about this for very long so there are most certainly also other phenomenal combinations that I might even prefer, but this is what I came up with right now.
Vocals: Lou Reed (The Velvet Underground) Guitar: Jimi Hendrix (The Jimi Hendrix Experience) Bass: Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads) Drums: Jaki Liebezeit (Can)
