Well, a lot of people are royally pissed off right now. But I think in time, especially whenever the pandemic subsides, they will continue to work with WB. But the trust is gone. Whether that's permanent or not, I'm no sure.

WB is just ahead of the curve. Exactly. All this talk about "relationships". This is business. Eventually everyone will understand that.

A lot of directors and actors feel like they've been slapped in the face and betrayed by a studio they felt cared as much about the movie theater experience as they do and weren't just about making money. But given that it's a studio, and they'll always follow the path that makes it the best and most amount of money, this isn't surprising.

Are we talking about the pandemic layoffs? Hey, it's business. If they didn't, they'd go under, and then when it's passed, there would be nothing to which people would go back to. My daughter is in the entertainment industry, and lucky enough to have her job. Her team was cut in half, but she and her boss are the only ones on the East Coast and are essential to the publishing faction of the business, so their jobs are safe. No, she does not work for Warner.

WB is just ahead of the curve. Unilaterally altering the terms of contracts without so much as a heads up to those affected is the future?

This isn’t about Nolan throwing a temper tantrum because his movies can’t be big and loud anymore. It’s about an entire industry completely changing, which obviously cannot happen overnight with one decision (which is what WB tried to do). This is what I don’t understand about the Stream Bros. They can’t wait to see theaters die off, but they don’t even realize that’s there’s a lot more at play than their own convenience. Years of contracts, millions of employees, billions of dollars in a lucrative (yet changing) industry, etc. can’t just be dismissed and ignored.

Probably not.
They own a lot of stuff plus they can always focus on artsy fartsy stuff.
But as I said in another thread, talent follows the studio, not the other way around.
There will always be someone ready to play Superman and there will always be a director who wants to make it.

No one has lost any money yet and there no way on gods green earth they are recouping that money at the theater. But they did handle it poorly if they didn’t tell anyone they were doing this. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good idea. I just don’t know what the argument is. It sure can’t be “Let’s wait two years! It’s only a couple of billion dollars! DERP!”
