That the best case scenario. Worst case, the talent guilds and major talent agencies boycott WB and various artists and production companies sue the crap out of them. Either way, WB does not have a bright future.

Meh, you get new talent.
There is no studio that is going to suffer for too long.
They may lose Nolan or some other bigwig.
Talent follows the money and the money only follows the talent when there is even more money.
Fox, outside of Searchlight, sucked perennially and yet they still had movies going out on the regular.

WB unilaterally altered the terms of innumerable contracts, costing many people potentially millions of dollars of income, without so much as a heads up, and the decision was reportedly nothing more than Chairman Toby Emmerich's attempt to curry favor with AT&T. How can anyone ever sign a contract with any kind of assurance that WB will keep up their end again?

How can anyone ever sign a contract with any kind of assurance that WB will keep up their end again? Well, it has not costed them anything yet. The end of the year may be a different story, but NO ONE was going to be recouping their investment for the first half of 2021. If the producers of Dune win in the court of public opinion if not legally and Dune is released, it won't make even 50 million dollars which is why this is so bizarre. Everyone is pretending that COVID isn't a thing. This is not an art issue. Most movies on Netflix are purchased from studios at rock bottom prices where no one gets anything special. I would be completely shocked if two things weren't a part of the conversation: 1. That Warner was going to pay back the investment of others and probably some hypothetical back end number for the talent even though they wouldn't have gotten any back-end otherwise. 2. That Legendary was not shopping those properties around and getting big offers. They already tried to sell Godzilla to Netflix for 250 million. All this means is Warner is going to pay more out of pocket to shut the whiners up and perhaps break any deal they have with the Dune producers which would be idiotic on their part because, contrary to what the whining is about, Warner has not stopped taking on projects other companies don't want. I imagine on Dune they want to wait but there is no upside to that for Warner and it helps the TV show they are developing for it.

I'm pretty sure Warner is not going to have much choice but to back down just to shut everyone up.
They will probably still release their own movies like Suicide Squad.
If I were them I would just release the movies...& then play them on HBO Max 3 months later like Disney did with Mulan.
They probably can't do that with Dune though.

It’s just they don’t need the subscriber growth as much because they don’t have to pay the producers until box office shows up.

They need a hit to dig them out of this rut. The upcoming Space Jam sequel nobody asked for will not doubt be the answer they're looking for.

They must really be banking on the furry demographic that jerks off to Lola Bunny. That's the only explanation I can think of for it being made.

I feel like you are underselling the problem... im not selling anything over and under. It’s a problem and one way or another it’ll be settled. WB can take the heat and I get to watch new movies at home or they can’t take the heat and I won’t get to watch the movies at home. However I think rich directors are more tenacious than rich studio execs. They have nothing else to do right now but gripe.
