Francesa did not say that. He may be the biggest blowhard in sports, but he's always been a Yankee guy.
Will the .700 winning percentage last? Of course not. But I think any Yankee fan has to be happy that these young guys like Judge and Sanchez are adjusting well to the majors, and could be cornerstones of the franchise for the next decade if things work out. Also, we should be thrilled with the way Castro and Didi played last year and what they're doing so far this year.
Bird has been awful in 2017, but he's already demonstrated his power and the value of his bat. Luis Severino has rebounded from a bad season and seems to have his confidence back. And there are many others still in AA and AAA who are developing and are rated as top prospects.
Personally as a lifelong Yankee fan I couldn't be happier that the organization decided last year to rebuild instead of spending tons of money to be mediocre. Now I hope for continued discipline and patience as the market floods with starting pitchers and guys like Bryce Harper are looking for enormous contracts. Let some other team pay Harper the $400 million he wants.

Let some other team pay Harper the $400 million he wants. That's the $64 question. No doubt that the Yankees are on the right track. The "Spend, spend, spend" era after 2001 really didn't work. Zillions of dollars for one measly WS title. But if the rebuilding project doesn't bear fruit by 2019, will the fan pressure ensure that the Yanks will have to go all in for Harper, Machado et al? And to answer the original question, the Yanks will go as far as their starting pitching takes them. The W/L records are gaudy. Tanaka and CC's ERA and WHIP aren't great. Pineda's career has been marked by inconsistency. The bullpen will cover some of the warts, but not all.

The new regime seems to abhor paying luxury tax. Sign those two and they will pay a dollar in tax for every dollar in salary. If the team is winning, if the fans are filling the big money seats and the team gets more headlines than the Mets, Cashman and Prince Hal will want to stay the course. But it will be the fans, the Franchesca listeners and the message board posters (what losers they are) who will scream for Harper. Especially if the Yanks haven't won a WS.

Francesa is retiring this year. That means his WFAN show is over, although he says he'll still do "stuff." I don't know what that means. He is the only sports figure who has an entire convention dedicated to him, so I suppose he can do what he wants.
I don't think Yankee fans are so impatient that people will be howling for Harper if we don't win by 2019. That's only two more seasons. But I do think that the Yanks might go after Machado if Judge and Sanchez are killing it and they need more pieces. The Yanks have quite a few highly regarded SS prospects in the farm system now too, so everyone will be watching closely to see how they develop.
Also, Didi and Castro are both only 27, and few people notices but they were both 20 HR 70 RBI guys last year.
