Is this any good? I've heard it's basically like a British variation on Blood Simple.

It’s pretty compelling. You won’t be bored. The ending wasn’t my cup a tea, but it’s still worth watching.

I think it's a good film, Ewan McGregor's best performance outside of Trainspotting. I don't like recommending films to people in case they suck and they blame me, but you could do worse.

A very good and dark movie, with some aboslute solid performances from all three main leads, but Christopher Ecclestone steals the show for my part. I do remember hearing or reading about, some years ago, that he was actually up for the part as Francis Begbie in Trainspotting, but that Danny Boyle (or some of the producers), felt he was just a bit too tall/intimidating in size/physical appearance, and so instead they chose Robert Carlyle.

A fond favorite. A very visually compelling film in spots. Not sure if it holds up because I haven't seen it in decades.
I would compare it more to A Simple Plan.
