I really enjoyed it. Kingsley hams it to the hilt but somehow pulls it off, Ray Winstone and the rest of the cast are very strong and it offers some genuine surprises. Good stuff, tough and strangely touching. 7/10

I enjoyed it very much and was much amused by critics who wrote that they had a problem picturing Gandhi (Kingsley's Oscar winning role) as a violent mob enforcer. But as I immediately recognized, "Gandhi" had been released in 1980. 20 years ago. How ridiculous. Kingsley had played many different characters during that long stretch.

It's hard to like a movie like SEXY BEAST. The protagonist (a retired criminal named GARY "GAL" DOVE) spends way too much time trying to convince others that he won't work in a bank heist, even though it's pretty obvious to anyone who has ever seen a movie that he'll do it. There are some cool shots, but the characters (specially DON LOGAN, one GAL's criminal associates) are unbearably annoying. 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

That's the common formula. Even when the character is reluctant at first, they eventually change their minds. If the movie had done something different, I would've praised it for it.

Some good character work from Kingsley and Winstone, but the movie itself lacks suspense. I just couldn't care about the heist. It's good for a few black laughs and I love Don Logan's creative swearing, but overall I feel the movie is overrated.

Gal literally has no choice at this point, Gal was always going to say no to Logan, he only changes his mind to prevent potential murder of himself and his girlfriend and friends.....

I once read a user's opinion on an old IMDb board that she could not bear to watch Jim Caviezel as a terrorist in Deja Vu after he had played Jesus.

Oh, I'm not saying it's a plot hole. It does make sense in-universe. I'm saying that the screenwriter structured it this way so the narrative would follow the same part we've seen in other movies.
