Ridley is a decent enough actress but she's not exactly stellar either. I mean, do you mean to tell me you can't think of any actress out there who could have done a better job with her role? What's acting have to do with it? Mark Hamill's acting in A New Hope was atrocious. It was so bad that it made the mediocre acting by the other 2 leads look decent. But it didn't matter. To quote Harrison Ford, "It's not that kind of movie kid."
And this is coming from a huge fan of A New Hope.
Daisy Ridley works perfectly well in the role.
I never said it was about acting. I said a better actress for the role. That's not limited to just acting talent. |

I can think of alternative choices perhaps but if they'd been better, I cannot say. What do you find that's been lacking from Ridley? Actresses like Emily Blunt or even Blake Lively can dominate the screen as soon as they walk into a room... that's a trait you usually want to have with your leading actor/actress. Okay. But when it's a lonely nobody from a small world, perhaps a dominating presence of charisma and gravitas is counterproductive to the character. There's a reason Harrison Ford was cast as Han instead of Luke.

But when it's a lonely nobody from a small world, perhaps a dominating presence of charisma and gravitas is counterproductive to the character. There's a reason Harrison Ford was cast as Han instead of Luke. As long as that person remains a nobody from a small world, your logic makes sense. When that nobody eventually becomes the star of the show, then you have a problem.

When that nobody eventually becomes the star of the show, then you have a problem. She was still struggling with that well into The Last Jedi. Haven't seen Rise of Skywalker so I can't comment there.

I think your ellipses and I are on different pages. My point is that someone with Rey's upbringing, struggles, and doubts lacking "gravitas" and movie starlet charisma is self-explanatory. Daisy Ridley was playing a character.

I see no reason to recast Rey.
Daisy Ridley was fine in the movies, there are many problems with the sequel trilogy but she is not one of them.

Neither was Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford or Carrie Fisher in the OT, what's your point?
