www.mlb.com/news/baltimore-orioles-team-name-originWhy are they the Baltimore Orioles? Whatβs the connection there? History says it comes from their colors. Wild male Baltimore Orioles sport striking black and orange breeding plumage, just like the uniforms of their baseball counterparts. 18th Century British naturalist Mark Catesby was the first to document how Marylanders called them βthe Baltimore-Bird,β because males wore orange and black, according to Audubon. Those were the heraldic colors of Lord Cecil Calvert Baltimore, the first proprietor of the Maryland province and from where the city gets its name. The state has given the bird special protections since 1882 and recognized it as its official bird since 1947.

I used to see Orioles all the time by the Pennsylvania/Maryland border in Amish country.
Pretty birds - guess Baltimore was about an hour and 20 minutes away

One of the very few team names that was an actual thing, before it was repurposed
"St. Louis Blues" ( a famous song and film ) was another.
Oh, and "Texas Rangers", too.

Also, one of the absolute best logos in all of sports. The one in the picture? No offense, but that looks ridiculous.

More of a state of mind than an actual fashion choice. πβ i want red sox! It's easy, my brother. Late at night, when you're alone, shut everything off and in total silence, just say to yourself "I wish I was Carl Yastrzemski" 3 straight times, and then bammo, you'll have your Red Sox. Trust in the system.
