Interview with Sarah Alexander backstage at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' Childrens' Entertainment Awards
I've just gotten a dvd of Carlo Vanzina's comic fantasy 'Pretty Princess' (1993) to watch this Christmas. I think Sarah Alexander made her film debut here, while working in Italy. I'm looking forward to seeing it as I do enjoy some of Vanzina's work.

Sarah Alexander has worked with many of Britain's top comedians. She worked with comedy duo Griff Rhys Jones & Mel Smith in her early days. She then worked with comedy duo Alexander Armstrong & Ben Miller on the earlier, funnier, racier incarnation of their sketch show that was commissioned by Channel 4. She was a regular performer on 'Smack The Pony', a sketch show designed by comediennes Fiona Allen, Sally Phillips & Doon Mackichan.
Fun Fact : Sarah Alexander appeared in an unaired pilot for a revamped version of 'The 11 O'Clock Show' with comedian Iain Lee - you can now see the full episode screening on youtube.

Alexander also works regularly with her husband, actor and comedian Peter Serafinowicz. She's appeared on his sketch show and they worked together on the science comedy 'Look Around You'. Serafinowicz has recently been working with 'South Park' co-creators Matt Parker and Trey Stone on the web series 'Sassy Justice' and 'Sassy Trump'.

Well the site where I got the picture from says it is. I think it might be a different Sarah Alexander. It's quite a common name. She looks like a young Meryl Streep.

That picture from New Adventures of Pinocchio looks less creepy than CATS (2019).

I actually think Sarah Alexander is the most naturally catlike of English women, in her intensity, expressiveness, svelte figure, and the extraordinary arch in her back.

Look at her legspace as she walks in this candid taken from one of Jonathan Ross' halloween parties (Ross' wife Jane Goldman was a scriptwriter on 'Stardust'), you'd think she was cajun dancing, or performing an impromptu Irish jig. There's been nobody quite like her in 25 years of celebrated British comedy (it's truly gone global with the rapid rise of the interweb), and I feel she doesn't get the credit she deserves. In short (which she herself says she is), there's a reason so many of this nation's leading comedy writers and performers want to work with her.

Sarah Alexander in 'Covington Cross'
A nice-looking actress who I've always been aware of, but not really seen in much. The thing I remember her from the most is that^ episode of Red Dwarf she guest-starred in alongside Brian Cox. I didn't even realise she was in the movie Stardust (thanks to all those prosthetics they hid her under). The most recent thing I saw her in was Season 1 of the TV series Pennyworth.

Hey chalice. Please may I wish you and your family a happy Christmas, or as happy as pandemic circumstances currenly permit.
Is 'Pennyworth' worth checking out?
This Christmas, I plan to resume my viewing of 'Orphan Black' as I have some days free.

Merry Christmas to you and yours as well. Yeah, I thought Season 1 of Pennyworth was pretty good. You haven't finished watching Orphan Black yet? Yes, you need to get right on that.

Today, I watched Carlo Vanzina's comic fantasy 'Pretty Princess'. It's an Italian film about a Nordic princess (played by Dutch actress Barbara Snellenburg) that's filmed in Austria, so it's truly international. Hungarian actress Catherine Schell plays a key supporting role.
Sarah Alexander isn't the only British performer in the cast (she plays German college girl Ursula who wears a dirndl). There's also David Warner, Susannah York, Paul Freeman, Liz Smith, Godfrey James, Tilly Blackwood and Julian Rhind-Tutt.
Sarah Alexander & Barbara Snellenburg
I was lucky to see the complete version which runs close to two and a half hours in length (there's a shorter thetrical version available that runs around 105 minutes according to imdb). It's an enjoyable picture, slickly handled by Vanzina who always favours smooth presentations. It's beautifully photographed by Luigi Kuveiller with music by English composer Simon Boswell who was based in Italy around the time.
Another example of Sarah Alexander's talent and versatility, I feel.

That's so cool to hear you say that.
Here's an ice skating sketch she made with Doon Mackichan for the first episode of 'Smack The Pony' that's one of my favourites ...

Yeah Smack The Pony was brilliant, and she was brilliant in it, I have all 3 series on DVD, They where released in Scandinavia in 2008. My favourite English comedian active today is Steve Coogan who worked with Sarah Alexander on the comic horror compendium (basically a spoof of Amicus Films), 'Dr. Terrible's House Of Horrible', which I have on dvd. It also features comedienne Sally Bretton who I'm a fan of - Bretton worked with Alexander on 'Green Wing' and she works regularly with another comedian I like, Lee Mack. I mention Coogan as the 'Smack The Pony' team have all worked with Coogan during their careers. In fact, Fiona Allen ('Alan Partridge's Scissored Isle'), Doon Mackichan ('Knowing Me Knowing You With Alan Partridge') and Sally Phillips ('I'm Alan Partridge') have all appeared in Coogan's 'Alan Partridge' comedy shows at one time or another. He's the one English comic of today who I feel confident proclaiming to be an absolute genius.

She was really good (and looked great) in the last season/series of Jonathan Creek, opposite Alan Davies. Alas, the episodes around her were dreadful.
