good example of being weird for the sake of weird. The Bruce/Selina stuff is really the only stuff that really works. Burton needed the first films producers back to keep him in check

I like Batman '89 more but I do appreciate Returns' weirdness.

Truly the era of championing filmmakers having their visions stifled by the bean counters behind the scenes in the name of delivering safe products. Thanks, Feige.

Batman Returns is batshit insane. I was nearly 7 when I first saw in 1992. Looking back, this definitely not a movie for the younglings. It’s depressing, violent, often ugly, and a little dumb at times. I don’t hate it but will always prefer the 1989 film.

10/10 A favorite of mine. I love the dark tone of it.

It's tons more gothic and more fantastical and stylish than the '89 movie. A weirder movie certainly, but I've always favoured it a tad more than its predecessor.

The style is through the roof. It's Burton at his most Burtonest.

I can appreciate the vision but man the Penguin just grosses me out. Haha. I love the film mainly because of Keaton but the 89 film is my favorite overall.

The first film was produced by Jon Peters and Peter Guber who were absent from the sequel and were pretty hands on with the first movie from what I’ve read

I always liked it. The Penguin can be a little grotesque at times, which I’m not a big fan of, but everything else about it is enjoyable.

A few scenes that stick out to me...eating the raw fish in a dirty onesie and him emerging from the sewer bleeding black blood from his mouth at the end. Those scenes just always make me cringe in a disgusted way. I prefer his versions in other media where he’s basically a fancy if sadistic gentleman gangster. I still didn’t mind him overall...just coulda done without some of the blech.
