How weird, I just finished proofreading the obituaries in the newspaper I work for. I've been working there for over a year, and the range of "stuff" that goes on around death in the rural area I live in is mind-boggling. Especially during this pandemic, people go half-crazy describing the deceased's life - perhaps because funerals are small, socially-distanced and brief, often just graveside.
Given my over-familiarity with obits, I've written my own, and all the publisher will have to do is drop in the date of death. My ashes will be scattered on the same mountain top I scattered my late husband's ashes on. No service, just back to nature.

The idea of cremation freaks me out. Stick me in the ground, chuck me in the sea or freeze me like Walt Disney, but just don't burn me down to ash and stick me in a jar.

Not having one. No funeral no gathering no party. Waste of money and disrupts people's daily existence to attend something no one enjoys and exists to perpetrate a whole death industry.
Cheapest option here is still about a thousand pounds. Funeral directors take the body from the hospital cremate remains and then spread ashes over rose garden.
No faux tears or boring reminiscing or looking at expensive flowers and saying "it was a nice service".
That'll do me fine.

I'd prefer cremation, no funeral. I despise funerals. They stress out the grieving families, because they have to organize the event, find photos and write obits, and provide food for all the attendees, at a time when they are exhausted and vulnerable and still trying to come to terms with their loss. I think it's pretty crappy, actually. Plus, I'm not fond of the idea of having a bunch of people come gawk at my dead body. I'd just prefer a simple cremation and not make a big production out of the whole thing.
