Hello,
I know a lot of you guys hate this movie, I pretty much liked it and would rank iron man 2 lower than this.
So why the hate?
Is it the space ships? Being a Sci-fi movie instead of a fantasy one? Not showing more mythology?

I'm assuming this question is meant to be directed more towards DC fans?

Yeah, i made a mistake, this was meant to go on the MCU boards, but thought, what the heck, let's see what everybody thinks.

I felt it was aimless and pretty blah, there was no presence when it came to the villain or even direction, Asgard and surrounding worlds didn't feel alive, and tonally it was a bit off with the earth based characters.
Now.....I don't hate it, but I don't like like it much.

It was just an okay film, but not worth the hate it got. They made a lot of blunders while making it, but ultimately I still feel there's plenty of good in there.

It's my least favorite of the MCU next to Iron Man 2 and even then, it's still a 6.5/10 for me. I hate Kat Dennings' schtick, I hate Christopher Eccleston being wasted as the villain, and I hate the forced inclusion of Jane Foster by her miraculously finding the Aether. That being said, I enjoyed Loki (duh); the sci-fi/fantasy setting of Asgard and the other realms; the action sequences; and the climax being somewhat interesting. It's a mediocre installment but fairly entertaining.

It was an ok movie, not as bad as people are saying but just not quite as good as the rest of the MCU movies. That said, it's still better than all 3 of the DCEU movies so far.

I loved Kat Dennings, I loved the Elves, I loved the Aether story, it was all really fun and awesome.

the villain was weak and no one cares about Loki's brother.

the villain was weak and no one cares about Loki's brother. I don't see how the villain was weak. I think that's an overblown statement to be honest. I quite enjoy Malekith as well as Kurse and the entire horde of Dark Elves.

The first time I saw it I thought eh, it's OK. Saw it again a couple years later and decided it's actually damn good.

It's so weird watching the social bandwagoning opinion on this one. It's one of those movies that somehow got permission for people to say it's not their favorite, and so then people started saying it was bad, and it just became ok to say that. Meanwhile it's actually really good.

The weird thing is, this just happens on-line. I recently rewatched a few of the so called "lesser" MCU movies (so some friends can catch up) and i must say they hold up pretty well. That was the thing that prompted this thread. TDW is not nearly as bad as the collective internet wants you to believe. I for one enjoyed it a lot and seeing it with other people gave me an opportunity to revisit it and regain a new apretiation for it. Before viewing it i was "ok, lets get this over with" by the end I was, wait why is this movie bad again? MCU is like pizza when it's bad it's still pretty good.

I absolutely love Iron Man 2 and Thor 2. They're fun as hell and well made. I truly think it became accepted to say they weren't any good, and it snowballed. But then I hear great stories like yours of people who watch it again a year later and rediscover that they're actually really good.
Now that being said I'm rooting for Ragnorak to blow everything out of the water and join the truly elite category, but all of them are great fun films.

Thor 2 is a poor film, man. Bad form. IM2 is much, much better and way more fun to rewatch.

I mean really, was about it qualifies the entire film as not good? Thor 2 didn't feel pointless, it felt like an epic example of the reality gem's potential. In fact, I would argue it the highest stakes of any MCU film.
