The film portrays Phoenix's Joker more as a dangerous and unhinged person on a downward spiral of violence, but not exactly scary or menacing. Ledger's Joker in TDK was ruthless and frightening.  |

I saw Heath Ledger's Joker as more flamboyant and theatrical than scary. Phoenix's Joker was scarier to me because he felt more real. People on the edge of sanity about to snap seems scarier to me, I suppose.
