No offense to the late Alex, but he wasn't as good as the new host, who is not nearly as smug and snobbish. Both were very good at enunciation, and almost no one on TV knows how to do that these days.
Trebek got me sick. No offense. I'm sure he was a nice guy when he wasn't a host.

I agree, I think Ken is doing a great job. I mostly liked Alex, but his lack of sensitivity was often quite embarassing, like when summarizing the scores and saying "so-and-so is in a distant third place". Alex did have a better voice though.

Catman grew tired of Alex's attempts to be clever when reading the answers, especially when he tried accents.
And the insurance commercials were, quite frankly, embarrassing to watch.

Well, we now know religion really is on the decline since we're down to arguing about Alex Trebek's replacement. Well .. with s-w-m-n-b-n hiding in the Phantom Zone since the election and the conspiracy guru also absent, it was inevitable.

Kens doing fine.
I think it’s odd he’s not the official host considering he is so tied to the show and he doesn’t suck at it.
He is in no way better than Alex Trebek

I kind of liked how he didn't baby them. If you were in last place by a lot he would let you know it.

I haven't watched Jeopardy since Ken Jennings took over. But I can't believe everyone on this thread is saying this newbie is better than the man who hosted the show for decades and made it into a classic. Jeopardy is a show for the educated elite. I hope they haven't thrust some smarmy nice guy or a Pat Sajak type in Trebec's place. Yeah I'm a snob. Well, why don't you try watching it before being incredulous. For your information Ken Jennings is a Jeopardy champion that won (if I recall) over 70 games before being defeated (over a decade ago), and recently won the Greatest of All Time Tournament. Although I'm not sure if Ken will be on next week, they're trying out several guest hosts, and I don't know how long each guest trial lasts.

There's no replacing Alex Trebek, who I thought did a fine job over nearly forty years. But I was pleasantly surprised by Jennings, who came across as a professional and genuine personality in his hosting duties. Don't be so quick to count him out; he may well end up being given the job permanently, which I wouldn't mind at all. I think Alex made a good choice in tapping Ken for the role.

Oh, sorry, but now I can't believe everyone is dissing Alex Trebec for a temporary host who has no chance of becoming permanent.
Lets see how Katie Couric does.
I did dis Alex a bit, but what's he going to do? Come back and get me like they do in the movies? This isn't a movie, and there's no way he can come back and Aaaaaaggggghhhhhh!

I have seen/heard that he filmed about 30 episodes. They film 5 a day 2 or 3 days a week. A couple days ago they announced about 4 other guest hosts that are official and will in time film episodes including Katie Couric and get this Aaron Rodgers. LaVar Burton has been talked about but he has stated he isn't interested. Not sure if he was officially offered a "try out".

While I loved Trebek, I think Ken Jennings is doing a decent job and I wish he would stay longer, rather than have various guest hosts "audition" on air in the coming weeks. I'm certainly not looking forward to Katie Couric as host (I couldn't watch her on the Today show or anything else) or some of the others whose names I can't even recall.

If Katie Couric is ever the host ...that's it for me .... Even if the other choice is Kelly Ripa?

I'm glad Burton oped out myself, can't stand the guy.
I'm sure they're searching high and low for a qualified black female. Don't be surprised if Kamala Harris does a "try out". Worst post of this thread, Ken Jennings is by far the front runner to get the job permanently.

Worst post of this thread, Ken Jennings is by far the front runner to get the job permanently. Nah, the "worst" posts (if there even is a "worst post" on this thread ) are those which dismissed Trebec's skill as host.
Jennings will never be the permanent host. First off, he's Mormon. They won't choose a member of a misogynistic homophobic church as host on a national tv show. The Mormon Church also receives criticism for discrimination against blacks. Sorry, Jennings will not get the job. There are too many liabilities on his association with the church.
And Jennings is not an entertainment industry professional.
Those are certainly words you’re posting, but they largely don’t mean anything. It’s possible that the network could go with a celebrity host, but Ken Jennings has been the fan favorite replacement for quite a while.

The main problem with "celebrity" hosts is that they'll try to bring their public personas to the show and perform rather than focus on their hosting duties. Jennings' persona of "game show guy" makes him more understated. He even mentioned on the show this week that its real stars are the contestants; I'm afraid the other guest hosts may not understand that. Even as a Jeopardy contestant, Jennings displayed restraint; good thing they didn't get that cartoonish Austin whatshisname guy from a few years back to host (the one that used to make goofy faces at the audience, etc.).

No idea why anyone would think that unless they are the type that routinely say "woke culture" or "leftist media". I'm anti-woke by the way. I'm not endorsing it. I'm just acknowledging the existence of the anti-white male bias. You should have been clued in by my Kamala Gandhi reference. You clearly do not watch a lot of game shows. The only time a black dude gets to host a game show is by being extremely famous doing something else first. As in everything else not tied to professional basketball, white dudes are safe.

Regarding who should be Alex's replacement, keep in mind nobody watches it except old boomers (it's a cable show that's been on since the 1960s) so the replacement should be someone that doddering old people can relate to. Jay Leno?
