Many do not see evangelicals as decent people working to practice the teachings of Jesus, but as white supremacist, cop killing terrorists who used violence to try to overthrow democracy.
This is due to their alliance to donald trump.

How many people saw them as decent people before that?
I don't know enough about the different denominations of Christianity.

Sounds like these 'many' people just want to re-label "white supremacist, cop killing terrorists who used violence to try to overthrow democracy" as "Evangelical Christians". Isn't that a bit like re-labelling "drug-pushing criminals joining gangs and intimidating law-abiding folk" as "Black People"?

And being a “drug-pushing criminals joining gangs and intimidating law-abiding folk" is the racist’s definition of "Black People.” Well, uhhh... yes, that was entirely my point. Given that there is a fundamental difference between the normal (i.e. non-racist's) definition of “drug-pushing criminals joining gangs and intimidating law-abiding folk" and the definition of "Black People", just the same as there is a fundamental difference between the normal definition of "white supremacist, cop killing terrorists who used violence to try to overthrow democracy" and the definition of "Evangelical Christians".

I'm personally indifferent to evangelical Christians...they have no power anymore and haven't really in a long time.

Evangelicalism, like the rest of American Protestantism, isn't Christianity. It's the spiritual manifestation of Capitalism. When one realizes this, their rejection of Christ's teachings in order to preserve property and the status of the owner's of capital over the well being of minorities and the poor makes perfect sense.

You're probably right - there seems to be a tendency to believe they have more influence over us than they actually do, but I guess everybody needs a bogeyman to blame for the ills of modern society, whether it be 'The Jews', or 'The Homosexuals', or 'The Immigrants', or 'The Evangelical Christians', or whatever other particular group happens to take your fancy.

This is due to their alliance to donald trump. Only media zombies are dumb enough to believe idiotic generalizations like that. Trump is the scapegoat people with black or white thinking need. The 'Many Americans' you refer to in your thread title are ignorant.

It's progressive when the negative generalization is about white folks. It's regressive when the negative generalization is about black folks. America is a country with 'Good racism' and 'Bad racism'. You're supposed to embrace the hypocrisy (and thus a claim to virtue), rather than noticing it.

It’s not Evangelicals per se. It is conservative, fundamentalism and its will toward elite authoritarianism. People are now realizing that WASPS have stingers... and are really aggressive when you rile them up... ...and, like the actual insect, that they serve no real purpose.
