I think it was a couple of weeks ago in 'The Times' music section that there was a stirring piece on the greatness of the Sleaford Mods. The writer said they are bad boys who use more 4-letter words than most bands combined, and use them brilliantly, I remember that.
This week, I was taken by Dan Cairns' review for their album of the week, 'Drunk Tank Pink' (2021) by critically acclaimed London outfit Shame, which concludes with the line, "What a brilliant album." Keith Greenhouse in 'UK Class' described the album as, "Different class. Next level bangers. 'Nuff said."
This led to me looking online to see what the latest UK music was trending at music sites that's not grimewave. Some are buzzing about a "post-punk" movement that mixes coldwave and darkwave to create a British new wave. The Sleaford Mods are apparently viewed as godfathers by many of these bands who are making a bold statement on the scene. I think I saw one Sleaford Mod on a live, socially distanced, roundtable (without the table) politics / arts debate on the channel Sky Arts before Christmas.
How would you rate / rank these bands?
Sleaford Mods
Idles
King Krule Shame Black Midi Black Country, New Road The Cool Greenhouse
'Nigel Hitter' - Shame
Thanks.

Loved them, but getting too samey. Haven't played the new one yet although I have it and it was good Jason attempting some "singing" vocals on the last platter as a change of pace? Well worth checking out.

Did you listen to any of those other bands? They were all being strongly recommended online by fans of Sleaford Mods and English 2010s "post-punk".

I've seen Idles on 'Later With Jools Holland' before, on multiple occasions I think. An English guy where I work told me he's seen them live several times; they're his number one favourite band - he says they put on the best show he's ever seen and he is a regular gig-goer.

I love Sleaford Mods. Bit samey at times and very abrasive...I can see why many would hate them. I see them as a Scuzzy Carter USM Idles and Shame aren't too shabby.

'Best Of British' has named Sleaford Mods' instant classic album 'English Tapas' (2017) the greatest post-punk album of the century. I recall 'The Times' also singled this album out in their post-2000 post-punk albums list at number 1; the list was dominated by British albums. It's been called a hardcore banger that could only come from the Great British.
I'll buy it now.

Sky Arts is screening Christine Franz's critically acclaimed, flagship documentary 'Bunch Of Kunst' (2017) which follows the Sleaford Mods on tour and shines a light into their creative process. These bad lads use plenty of x-rated language and have been called "the Voice of Britain".
Check it out.

Own Shame and Black Country, New Road’s latest albums and like them a lot. Should listen to Black Midi’s new one soon.
