I will start with last night's dream of mine, which will be like many of your own. The specific points will vary, but the general theme is the same.
I take this dream not from anything special, because it is pretty mundane, but I recall it vividly.
First, I'm confident that many of you have recurring milieus like I do. One of mine is the street strip mall. Not exactly a strip mall, not exactly a street, more like the fourth street mall in Louisville, but with additions and variants from other similar areas I've been to in Bardstown, Burbank, Hollywood, Okinawa, Frankfort, Columbus, Baltimore, well, just a bunch of places.
I also have a recurring theme about work. I've had literally hundreds of different work places, from about a hundred different employers from whom I've gotten paychecks. And many of these were seasonal and recurring jobs on demand. Much of it was travel. Carnies, temps, race track people, lots of others, probably have such a theme in their dreams.
At any rate, in this dream, I was confused, as usual. We had a new system of clocking in and out, and none of us knew how to do it, and my boss lady was not available. I actually had some stewardship. There were people under me, due to my experience. But we were all left out in a limbo as to our duties. The people under me were not like Americans, because they didn't try to sabotage everything, and because they didn't panic. Like me, well like most people who do my sort of work, they just did the best they could with what information they had. This is a big difference between "carnie" types and Americans who have steadier careers. We are all over the place, so nothing surprises or panics us. And we expect surprises and we expect our worlds to end every second.
So, we don't panic like the average American.
So, beginning with that, we see that this is all very natural. We can look at a dream and wonder if there is a supernatural or natural interpretation. Most of you, I'm confident, wake up from dreams and parse them analytically, to see what they mean in a natural sense. This is natural. It's what humans have always done.
Another thing easier for "carnie" type workers, is that it's easier for the carnie to understand the lack of control he or she has.
Take real life. We know we will cease to exist in this life some day. The carnie knows he is just a passenger on the train. Most carnies know this, any way. This is not "your life". Only a moron believes this life is "his life" or "her life". If this was "your life", wouldn't you be able to perform gymnastics like a kung fu film character, along with the special effects? Running up walls, upside down on ceilings, leaping twenty times your height and stride?
The dream is a different sensory experience. We all know that when we fall asleep watching Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowell, and Kim Novak escape from ape prison that this explains why we're dreaming a talking ape is walking along with us in our dream. And there are similar explanations for everything else that happens later in the dream.
We also learn we can get more control in a dream if we set our minds to it. We can say "Enough! I'm not falling from the sky!"
In real life, the day you cease to exist, whatever it is, the enemy attacks you with the same attacks he always attacks with. You know that if you are on a plane and it falls, you won't be able to flap your wings, and you'll try to make a parachute from a sheet or blanket, and all the time, the demon or devil that plagues you will accuse you of being at fault.
The demon or devil will accuse you of poor stewardship, as though this was your life, that you had control. You should have taken the A train. You should have drove. You should been faithful to your mate the night before, not giving in to some feeling of spiritual unity with another person, and taken yesterday's flight. Or you should have left your mate that day to have spiritual unity with another person and taken tomorrow's flight. Either way, the enemy will accuse you. If you've lived long enough, you learn this. Most carnies have learned this.
These specific details are "trees". Dreams also have "trees". Such as the strip mall rooms I saw in my dream.
The "trees" are sent by the enemy as lies, to keep us under its thumb. Look at the world. Is it special? No. There's nothing amazing about it. Nothing beautiful. Certainly nothing "strategic". Certainly nothing "inspiring". We have to bend our minds to make anything in this world pleasing or beautiful or strategic or inspiring.
Just by pure mathematical chance, there should be something inspiring, but there isn't. Yet this delusion seems to be accepted by most mortals today. Casinos love this. Modern casinos have no problem stacking the deck and calling it "laws of probability". Letting the dealer get 20 and 21 in twenty consecutive hands, and dealing you crap. While the mob family member sits in and gets his blackjack. Try to challenge this some day, and you'll see. Hold on "13" one time, to blow the way it's stacked. I guarantee you the mob family member at the table will get enraged, and the dealer will immediately get a new shoe, even if the old shoe has only been in play for one hand. I've done this.
Yet once we are fooled into thinking there is no cognitive entity stacking the deck of life against us, it's quite easy to accept that the casino isn't stacking the deck either. This is "the forest". If you look at the trees, you miss this.
Now, when Joseph interpreted dreams, he took "trees" such as birds, loaves of bread, cows, ears of corn, and made something of those.
This doesn't work with our dreams, unless you are truly blessed by some entity. I don't know if God was allowed to come into a dream for a certain person, but I know that the demons alone handle the "trees" in our dreams, no matter how much we fight against demons and for Jesus. Unless you are some blessed creature, there are no "guardian angels" for you. I find this true mostly for the transients like myself. We didn't choose to be carnies and strangers in strange lands. We were the "orphans and widows" Jesus and others spoke of.
Perhaps some of you do have guardian angels who protect you. Some of us are abandoned every single time. Some of you are born into mob families, because those with guardian angels are the biggest mob of the world.
Still, I doubt the "trees" in your dream come from the good God. In the Old Testament, it is written that Joseph claims those "trees" (loaves of bread, cows, ears of corn) were sent by the good God. Experience has proven to me that this cannot be the case, unless it was a game devised by Satan to allow God to enter on certain terms in this world, and then only in one or two dreams from one or two blessed people.
This is quite credible from the "dualist" version of God, in a more Agnostic view of the good God. That the good God's omnipotence doesn't include the world of which Satan is the prince, because this world is like a tiny box in the Universe, made by Satan, which explains why it is inferior. And somehow Satan tricked our spirits into being trapped here (the fall from Grace). To a dualist, this makes perfect sense.
You can't make sense of Reality if you are a materialist or a fundamentalist. You have to delude yourself, and explain the "trees' in the dream to be either natural coincidences or supernatural messages. Both of these are delusions when one looks objectively at Reality.
The "forest" is the dream that helps us see the good God. We see that we are not in control, and that some evil force is in control. Even if the good God totally abandons us and leaves us to annihilation, that is superior to being under the thumb of the uninspired creator of the world we experience.
