Yesterday I saw on the news that Godiva Chocolate is closing all their "brick and motar" stores in the U.S. by March. You will still be able to buy them online. I'm not a big fan of Godiva chocolate, being from the Chicago area, I love Fannie May but the stores around here don't carry Fannie May. What are your favorite chocolates?

Catwoman prefers Dove Dark Chocolate.
Catman will take whatever he can get sugar free.

Catwoman prefers Dove Dark Chocolate. Catman will take whatever he can get sugar free. We always have the dark chocolate Dove squares on hand. I also like the Dove sea salt caramel dark chocolate and also the Dove dark chocolates filled with peanut butter (much smoother than Reeces)

I miss going to the Mall and just stopping into one of their stores for a few random chocolates of my choice and a couple of chocolate covered strawberries.
And I could pick which ones I wanted,...that one back there. Oh and that's a new one, let's try this new one, here.
Now I have to commit to these packages and buy boxes of combos filled with things I don't want.
The internet is taking humans out of the equation more and more.

My all time favorite is Fran's Chocolates. They're based in Seattle, and do some shipping to regional stores (mostly "up scale"). From what I've seen the shipping to stores is limited to their small chocolate bars, and ice cream toppings. The main ingredient for the dark chocolate topping is sin. The full array of Truffles, and other collections, are available online. In the past, whenever I went to Seattle, I hopped a cab, and went to their factory store. But ... bless their hearts ... they opened a shop in one of the downtown hotels!

I saw that on the news, too, WKM. My heart sank. The 2 stores of theirs I've visited up here in the Seattle area were super nice. Their chocolates are really high end, with amazing attention to packaging. You could also get cartons of their Belgian Dark Chocolate ice cream at their stores. With their stores closing, it's just going to leave another blight on the brick & mortar retail landscape. Sad, really. At least the candy will be available online in some form or another after the stores close. Not sure about the ice cream, though.

I'm pretty happy with a bag of milk chocolate Hershey's Kisses or Nuggets (sometimes with almonds).

I still find the biggest loss in the closing of the brick and mortar stores is losing the ability to pick and choose one piece of candy of your choosing, whatever you want, or even two or three, of this or that...to try something new, just one of those over there please. And 6 chocolate covered strawberries please. Being able to look at shelves of dozens of different types of candies, and having that beautiful option of picking one of whatever you wanted to put into a box to form your own little "collection" is gone forever. Now we're forced into having to buy only presorted collections. No options.

All in all it's another brick in the wall.
